I've suffered with restless leg syndrome for years, it's recently got worse. Blood test showed low iron levels. I was started on Ropinirole to ease leg twitching and cramps, this didn't work and was supplementing with Gabapentin and zappa in just to get some sleep. Been back to the GP and I'm now on QUININE. I've had another blood test which again shows low iron levels. Been booked for a Kidney function test in Nov. The cramps are also in my shoulders. If it is CKD what stage would my symptoms be classed as??

HI Popeye,
We do not diagnose on this site. But your symptoms may not be linked to kidney disease at all. You will have to have your doctor run the test for kidney function to determine your stage or if you do have an impaired situation at all. No way we could tell you that from your post. Let us know what you discover after your tests.
Hi Popeye23,
Welcome to this community. I support Bassettmommer's reply to you, that this is a peer support forum, and we do not offer diagnoses. Health Unlocked
community guidelines: support.healthunlocked.com/... make it clear that these forums are not a substitute for professional medical advice, and would encourage you to speak to your doctor for advice and further investigations. Self-diagnosis is a risky area, and your symptoms may well not be related to kidney disease. Do check out other HU communities with specific reference to Restless Legs Syndrome as you may find them more relevant to your situation: healthunlocked.com/rlsuk

Hi. You sound a lot like me in that you are assuming something is a cause before the doctors have even finished testing. :). So I am probably the last person that should be writing you this, but I say be patient and wait for test results. There are many causes of ckd. ( webmd.com/brain/restless-le.... It is remotely possible to be a kidney problem which leads to a buildup of toxins in the system. But you have had the RLS you say for a long time, so it would seem (but only a doctor and test will know) that such a problem (kidney) would have presented itself long ago in many ways, if it were the cause. You say the doctor has scheduled a kidney "test". Perhaps you have had blood tests or urine tests which point him in this direction. Again, try to be patient. I know how difficult that is, but try. Keep us informed.
