Don't freak out. eGFR can fluctuate all over the place. You may be at 53 next time. You need to keep track of the general trend and not focus on one or two labs. Best of luck to you. :)

Hi Farooq 1st,

Welcome to this caring forum.

I am 77 and also of South Asian origin, having diabetes, CKD3b, Hypertension and also Hyperkalemia.

I am under the care of my G.P and a Nephrologist who are keeping a close eye on my medical conditions.

My HbA1C is 41, eGFR around 42 raised potassium level.

Hence I am having frequent blood tests for monitoring my condition and my HBA1C, eGFR and potassium levels fluctuate but no alarm has been raised by my health professionals. So I am philosophical about my fluctuations because there are many variables which can have affect, diet, hydration or medication side effects.

All I can say in your case , your fluctuation is well within range otherwise your health professional would have noticed.

I can only suggest keep hydrated, follow kidney diet and keep an eye on the trend.

Best of luck and take care.

i would not worry much. a year when i was diagnosed my egfr was 38 , has gone up to 57 and my last lab it was 43. i also was concerned until my nephrologist assured me that kidney function fluctuates and and they look at trends and there are so many other important aspects of ckd. i requested to have my labs done every month although my nephrologist really does not feel that it needs to be done that often. i just personally need the assurance of testing more often. i am also 66yrs. old and ckd was caused by high blood pressure which i have had since 19 years old. i am now taking amlodopine 5mg. per day, chlorthalidone 25 mg per day, metoprolol 25 mg per day, vitamin d 1000 iu i per day. blood pressure is under good control. i do all the other things i can possibly do. worry really does not help.
