Hello, it's been a while since I have been here but I have a question. My GFR about 6 months ago was 52 and my a1c was 8.7. Three months later after I went on a very strict diet my GFR was 74 and my a1c was down to 6.7. Now 2 weeks ago my GFR went back down to 66 but my a1c went down to 6.4. All of these past six months my creatinine, phosphorus, potassium and sodium levels were all normal and no protein or anything weird in my urine. Even my doctor is perplexed by this. Has anyone out there experienced anything like this or know someone who has? Just a quick note that I almost forgot, I also have a history of kidney stones and I know for sure that I still have a few that my doctor said that if your not in any pain then we won't bother to remove them. Any opinions about this would be appreciated.

Fluctuating GFR
HI Plantechy,
GFR fluctuates. It can be impacted by many things such as how much water you drank before the labs to what you did activity wise. The thing to keep an eye on is being consistent and not worry about slight changes. If you are concerned have them draw again in three months and see where you are. Congratulations on getting the A1c down. that is great and the best thing for your kidneys. I dropped my from 9 to 5.9.
Hello my friend and thank you for your help. As you know it can be very overwhelming sometimes. My doctor's keep telling me not to worry that I'm doing great and if I keep it up I will live a pretty normal life but that still doesn't keep my brain from going crazy sometimes. I really do appreciate your input and thanks again.
Hello there Planetechy, I,be experienced the same thing with the fluctuating gfr. After two different blood tests , Four days apart, I had a result of 71, then four days later it was 64. My doctor said it could be because of the amount water that I'm drinking along with the activities u perform though out the day, for it is important to stay hydrated. Everyone is different when it comes to symptoms, and it my not be the case for you, but drink more water , even if you feel you don't need any, and lower your activity level and see if the same occurs between blood tests after all fatigue is on of the symptoms of CKD, so try to reduce the amount of activity, and see if there are results.
