Cholesterol medicine.

Over a year ago I had a sizable kidney stone. My left kidney is about 1/4 function and doctor feels stone had been in there awhile causing damage. 6 months ago my gfr was 39 for my 1 and 1/4 kidney. Changed cholesterol medicine because it wasn’t making much difference. Today cholesterol numbers are amazing and gfr is 55. Switched Pravastatin to Simvastatin. I do a lot of cardio, watch what I eat, but always have. Any thoughts on gift change. Definitely not complaining.

Hello Sally10255

Thank you for your post. It sounds so positive that your GFR has improved and you are doing so well.

There has been some research in The U.S. that confirms that proteinuria and GFR can be improved with some statins.

This may not happen in all cases, so it will always need to be under the supervision of your doctor. Some caution is needed.

Do keep up your healthy lifestyle this can only be helpful.

Thank you!! For quite awhile my cholesterol numbers truly didn’t reflect all what I was doing. It was very defeating, so we switched medicines. Cholesterol issues are in genetics. Thank you.

Gfr improvement is a gift--a hard-eared one, but still a gift!
