Hi, I only have 1 kidney at stage 4 ckd with gfr of 19%. Will I need to stay at home for 12 weeks? Am I in the high risk bracket?

I would say absolutely yes. I’m similar with a higher gfr and started one 12 week isolation last Wednesday

Yes we are all at higher risk of getting more sick if we get it. I would recommend you get advice from your doctor as to appropriate steps for your sitution.

Not for the purposes of UK government. You would fall in to the High Risk group, but not the Extremely Vulnerable group which requires you to self isolate for 12 weeks (which may increase).

Your employer would have no obligation to pay your wage for 12 weeks if in High Risk group and you failed to attend work. If you had been in the Extremely Vulnerable group, then I believe (not 100%) your employer must pay your wages for your 12 week isolation. I know that Tesco will pay 12 weeks pay to Extremely Vulnerable employees, but not sure if that is a legal requirement.

If your question doesn't relate to - "Guidance on shielding and protecting people defined on medical grounds as extremely vulnerable from COVID-19

Published 21 March 2020", then the simple answer is, I'd STRONGLY recommend you isolate as severely and as long as possible. As you probably know, a severe infection can put kidneys under severe stress and this is not the time to suddenly need dialysis.

Thank you everyone for your advice and kind words. It is a slight sense of relief to be able to connect and talk with people going through similar/same condition.

Adding to what the others have said, yes! I have a better gfr of 29 but still not going into work (school). I am Social Distancing.

Mr gfr is 16. I haven’t left my home for 12 days now. I believe that Sheltering in place is the best thing you can do and the folks who live with you need to do the same so they don’t bring it home to you. You’re not only keeping your self out of harms way but knowing that if you get the virus you will almost certainly end up hospitalized, you are helping to put less burden on health care providers who are already overwhelmed.

It’s not that hard either. I’m getting lots of projects done, watching movies And series,

Working on a jigsaw puzzle and eating healthy home cooked meals. I walk the dog daily so do get out for that. I think of it like being on vacation in a cabin Somewhere.

When it’s all over it will be worth it!

Take care!

Most definately yes. Stay at home. You are in the at risk group. My understanding is if you are on dialysis you would be high risk group. But you are near that with that kidney function as I am sure you are aware. Stay home. Stay safe.

Hi I am only at stage 3 level but I also have 4 out of the recommended (I work for local Council) stay at home risk isolation at least for 2 weeks. Thankfully I can work from home but unsure how long this will last when we work for Child Protection which is a very demanding job. Bosses (who have no idea) are insisting two are rquired at work. Luckily there are two willing to help out but how long this will last is unsure. I am also a carer of my three grandchildren (one asthmatic and under 2) due to my dil being a care worker (vulnerable autistic children). It's just mad what's going on and everyone is unsure how things will progress. My husband is a contruction worker and has just been laid off so not sure what we can claim so far. My advice is if you're vulnerable stay at home.
