Does anyone know about the Chitosan Supplement to lower creatinine? I am going to ask my nephrologist when I see her on the 25th but I was just wondering if anyone has experience with that. Thank you 😊

Hello aj2581.

I am afraid all I know about this supplement is that it is used as a weight loss supplement and for lowering cholesterol. I have not heard of anything else sorry. Have you spoken with your health professional or pharmacist about taking this supplement as they know your medical history and can answer any queries about its suitability for you?

Do any of our knowledgeable members know any thing about or have experience of this supplement please and can help this member?

Thank you.

Lowering creatinine simply will alter the results of the test. Creatinine itself is not toxic to kidneys - but rather used as a marker to measure kidney function. The serum creatinine test tries to measure kidney function by looking at how much creatinine is left in your blood. Presumably if you have high creatinine, you have lower functioning kidneys, etc.

Of course, this assume that everyone's creatinine production is the same. For this reason there has been and still is a lot of grumbling about using only creatinine to measure kidney function, but that is the standard right now.

Thank you for this info

Such an excellent point. It seems way too much emphasis on Creatinine reduction. People with CKD have kidney problems (although this is a huge debate also), not Creatinine problems.

There seems to be a lot of conflicting information out there. I will be interesting to see what your nephrologist says.

Hi, I take Chitosan to lower creatinine. I take many supplements and feel they’ve all played a part in helping me stay off dialysis so far. Even my doctor says I’ve beaten the odds. I quit taking it when I ran out and last labs creatinine was higher. Started it again, just had labs but no results yet.

Well first let me say I’m getting close to dialysis, I’ve just managed to put it off awhile. I bought a program by Duncan Capistrano. Looked up my disease, I have PKD, it told me which supplements to take. I can tell you what I take but there are different things for different diseases. I take vit e, vit d, Coq10, selenium, astragalus, alpha lipoic acid, multi vit, Chitosan, CBD oil. The doctor has me on phosphorus binder, potassium binder, bp med and sodium bicarbonate. What kind of dialysis are you on?

Hermodialys. I have IgA. Thank you so much. Doctors usually hate questions about supplements. I used to CoQ10 and Alpha Lipoi acid advised by Life Extension guys. Thank once more.
