I'm actually panicking . I've suffered from GCA/ PMR for two years, I have reduced prednisalone from 60 mgs to 5 mgs in Eighteen months. I have been taken metformin for eight months but that was stopped last week. I have had abnormally high platelets for nine months but last week it was just 459. Routine blood tests showed GFR of 90 last November but now it is 57 as of this week. I had an unprovoked pulmonary embolism one year ago and my new GP has just stopped my daily warfarin . I feel that I am lurching from one condition to another; are they related ? I am waiting for a hip replacement and I also have arthritis in my neck and back. Three years ago I was a symptom free 59 year old just starting menopause. What in heavens name has gone wrong!

I wish you a very quick recovery and a good morale.

hi, Try not to worry too much. My eGFR went below 60 whilst taking antibiotics - long term. I have a heart condition too and sympathise with how you feel about bouncing from treating one condition to another.

The good news for me...and maybe for you too...is that when I stopped all drugs my eGFR improved from below 60 to 89 over a two year period.

Maybe it's worth thinking about the effect that multiple medications might have on your kidneys. Don't just stop them...but talk to your doctor about how they affect your kidneys.

It seems to me that stopping the drug you mention has put you back up to near normal function.

I was told that anything above eGFR 60 (at my age - 52) is fine.

Not what you're looking for?
