Kidney biopsy

Can anyone tell me the pain or any tips with getting a kidney biopsy. I'm scared

Hi Chelsae

I'm probably quite an expert in kidney biopsies, having had 7 in the last 6 months!

The worst thing is the anticipation - and being told that the noise from the 'gun' will make you jump. A local anaesthetic means no pain and I've not had any pain when that wears off. It should take less than 10 mins- so focus on the fact that it'll all be over very soon.

You have to lie flat for 4-6 hours after so make sure you go to the toilet before! I once spent 2 hours in pain before a bed-pan was brought and they are horrible!!

Have some treats for yourself - choccies, magazines, puzzles, music, films and enjoy 6 hours rest.

I wasn't that impressed either as I am a bit of a whimp The procedure was painless and I had 3 !!! Its the thought of it that is the only worry and now I wouldn't lose any sleep if I needed another one. Good luck
