my ckd level has gone from25 to 22 in two weeks. should I be referred to a specialist at some stage?

You should be ASAP at least from the knowledge I have. Please don't delay.

Thank you for that response. I get the feeling that some surgeries are reluctant to refer on particularly in view of my age ( 76) and other health problems.

Hi Tigger, I'm aged 72 so not much difference in us, after I had my left kidney removed I was at 23% that was 2 years ago since then my readings have varied between 25;21; 24; 23; 25; then the last one was at 29% best one yet for me, even when I was at 21% they just told me to carry on as I was, no special diet just eat sensibly, and the one time I did ask specialist wen I would need to go on dialysis he just said probably wouldn't need to if I get stable, I don't think they seem to bother a lot till you get to 15%, don't quote me on that I suppose everywhere is different. I get the feeling that after 70 they don't think about us the same, they would probably deny that if asked but I really don't think they bother as much, never been told much what to expect really, even

when asked just been told we will deal with things if need be.

AGE??? SO TRUE. AM 78- BEEN LIVING WITH THIS 5 YEARS. GET THE FEELING WE ARE ON OUR WAY OUT, SO WHATS THE DIFFERENCE HOW OR WHY. PRAYER

You should have been already referred to a specialist already age makes no difference!

Hi tigger26, you should be seeing a renal doctor and NOW !! I'm 13yrs post tx, however my Dad is 94 and CKD4 - he's been seeing a renal doctor and low clearance nurse since diagnosis 2yrs ago. The hospital (Royal Free in Hampstead) have never, at any time, questioned his age. He has been treated exactly the same as anyone else diagnosed CKD4. He receives fortnightly EPO shots and a district nurse comes to his flat every month to take bloods, to save him going to the hospital all the time.

Please don't delay, go to your GP right away and get an immediate referal. Do let us know how you get on.

Thank you to all the people who left replies for me concerning being referred to a nephrology specialist. I have decided to see my GP on Monday next to discuss the matter. I shall ask to be referred as it seems it's the best thing to do now.

Hi, I have been seeing a renal consultant for 10 years, I am 48 female, at Christmas my kidney function was 34. It doesn't matter what age you are, make sure that you are referred to a consultant asap.
