Venlalic and ckd

I have ckd stage 3 - 55 gfr. I suffer from anxiety and depression however have been off medication for about a year (by my own choice) . Recently I have started feeling the symptoms returning. Does anyone know if it is safe to take Venlalic 225mg (venlafaxine) again as I did before the ckd was diagnosed?

Online all I can see is that the dose may need to be reduced with CKD, but would talk to your renal doctor/nurse before starting to take it again.xx

Thanks for your reply googie. Unfortunately I haven't been referred to a specialist renal dr/nurse so will have to check with my gp.

Hi; I may have an inkling as to how you feel. I too was on venlafaxine (225 mg), and suffer from anxiety and depression; ckd level 4. My venlafaxine was immediately cut to two 50mg pills/day and what with the unexpected kidney failure, naturally, I am feeling quite low. Especially as my numbers are going the "wrong" way at each blood test. You can only ask about the anti-depressants, but when I told my GP I was feeling very low he asked me what I thought could be done; I replied "Well, I know the anti-depressant can't be upped, so I suppose it is just up to me to square my shoulders" - to which he replied "I am glad I didn't have to try and make you see it that way. All I can say is "Good luck", and if you want to chat, drop me a note...

I think your doc sounds great. The fact that he asked you what you thought could be done instead of just saying "tough". Very hard thing to square your shoulders when you are feeling crappy as no matter how hard you try at times, its so hard to "snap out of it" :(

I am at level 4 now and luckily don't suffer too much from depression but blimey don't I know it when I do! I didn't realise that we could take anything for it, but will try not to.

Good luck and remember you are not alone if you start to feel down. Give a shout on here :) x
