Hi everyone. Here's a little update about yesterday and how the blood sugars were for most of the day/evening/night.
Since it was my Nephew's birthday yesterday, my brother had a (family) party. Since we all (except for my Nephew and Niece) had our vaccines for COVID-19, we were all able to have more than the 7 of us to celebrate (10 total). The party was a lot of fun and it gave everyone a chance to catch up on what we missed since a year ago (before COVID started).
At the birthday party/cookout, there were different types of meats, salads, different dressings, gluten free and non-gluten free cake/cupcakes, baby corn on the cob, hot tea/coffee, mixed fruit salad, etc.. The entire meal/what I had eaten ended up being 86 total carbs. when you add in the gluten free cupcake. It's 56 carbs. before the cupcake that my brother bought for me so I could have something with everyone else. In an odd way, that was a good thing that I had the cupcake, corn and mixed fruit because before I had to leave to come home for the rest of the evening/night, my receiver started to alarm. It was saying that I was 145 straight down two arrows and it was playing music. I tested to see if this was correct since having 86+ carbs. at any meal usually raises my blood sugars closer to the upper 200's and 300's for a while then drops them back down to a 'normal' reading after some time before I have to do a snack/shot (depending what time of day it is). So, after testing and before heading home, my brother gave me a juice pouch that was 10 carbs. each pouch (one for drinking before going outside to the car and one I had in the car as we (my parents) were in the car driving home. I had the second pouch in the car and then a pineapple juice can when I was home because the numbers kept going under 120->.
When it was time for my bedtime snack, I retested (as usual) and had a bigger protein snack bar and a Greek yogurt. I usually have a 30 gram protein bar if the numbers are under 200 mg/dl. If the numbers are 200-300+, then I have a 20 gram bar and a Greek yogurt. Both types of bars hold (usually) overnight except once in a blue moon and then I have to get up in the middle of the night/very early hours in the morning to do a test and/or quick snack (depending on the blood sugars).
As for the rest of the day, the numbers kept mostly in the upper 100's-low 200's before the party.
More to come soon. Watch this space. Stay safe, happy and healthy.
