When I first stopped drinking, it was suggested that I change people, places and things. Most of my activities and friends were triggers for me. So it makes sense to stay away from people who drink. Keep up the good work.
I think if you want total abstinence then avoid people and places that woul bring you into a drinking hot spot situation. I find when not drinking it is the drinkers that want to stay away from me, if I want to socialise with them then I must pour myself a sparkling grape juice that looks like a wine or a G & T without the T, then I am acceptable again. Just goes to show me tha drinkers feel guilty about their drinking. Birds of a feather and all that!
Yeah...we find that when not being around others that drink, and not hanging out in the bars, and clearing the house of alcohol... you have better chances of not slipping as easily back into old habits. I found the people I thought were friends, were just other drunks enabling each other, as was the same with bars, why do you go to a bar...to drink. And I have no alcohol in my home. If someone brings it in during holidays, it goes back out the door with them, or down the drain. We have to create a safe space, and find other interests to fill that void. There are tons of groups and stuff to do non-alcohol related.
