TIA

Hi thanks for welcoming me to the group.

Strange thing happened Friday. Nearly 1 year post Stemi heart attack and stent, when I was 53 and 7 months post GI bleed, had strange moment. Wife was talking about her sisters whom I have known for over 30 years. For the life of me I could not place their name anywhere! This went on for about 5 minutes with the wife getting more irate! Couldn’t get the right words out and right hand slightly heavy.

All over and back to normal in 10 minutes. Visited A&E had bloods, Ecg and CAT scan. Nothing shown but thought had mini stroke. Sent away within hours with the hope of a telephone call from stroke team in next 7 days.

Very anxious. Can anyone offer advise on usual timescales and next tests to be done?

Thanks

Not a doctor, but sounds like a minor stroke, the same thing happened to me when I had my 2nd 1, sadly there is no test thst can be done. See what the Stroke Team says

Hi Herooftime thanks for reply. When eventually did see stroke team, (they didn’t receive referral from A&E), Consultant said it was small clot on brain that had been dispersed. Changed my clopidogrel for apixaban . Amazingly no follow up and no driving for 4 weeks. Feel ok now just scared of what’s to come next

Could well have been a minor stroke as my 2nd was a small clot on the brain. Noy good that they didn't have all your papers. Just take it easy & hopefully nothing will happen, has all the feeling returned? As mine didn't

Don't wanna alarm you, but in my case it was the warning sign of the stroke I had 26th Jan this yr, but hopefully that won't be for you, I'm on the same bloodthinners that you 1st mentioned starting with a C & have been since my 2nd minor on the 7th Dec last yr. Fingercrossed the new ones will work better & stop anyhingelse from happening

I was the same, no follow up,but ended up having 1 & that went badly

Thanks for reply

Had referral from Consultant to Anticoagulant Clinic. Just waiting for appointment- not sure it will be anytime soon!

If it was a TIA by definition that is transient and do causes no lasting damage. Did they say they will give you a brain scan to see any effects A transient is he ox attack . My husband is also on apixiban and that is the best medication for blood thinning . So as long as you’re on thenm and keep exercising and eating and drinking healthily you’re protected by the meds . Hope so anyway!
