My partner is now 6 months post stroke. He has made wonderful progress but seems to have come to a standstill now. The stroke affected his left hand and fingers. He does have quite a lot of movement but still cannot grip anything. We had a glimmer of hope a couple of weeks ago with fingers moving quite freely but now it seems like it has all stiffened up with very little movement. Is this common and will this be all the movement he gets. Any suggestions please.

So sorry to hear your problems i had a stroke four years ago which left my left arm and hand totally paralysed. With the help of physiotherapy and hard work i Now have full movement of both arm and hand although i do get some upper arm muscle pain at times so try not to despair your partner may get some movement back with the help,of the physiotherapist and some positive thinking best of luck

The important thing in recovery is to never give up.

Unfortunately there's no replacement for hard work. What I've found though, is that using everything you do as exercise (instead of saying that I'll "set aside" an hour a day) makes the whole thing a lot more relevant and vastly more enjoyable. :)

After my stroke just shy of a year, March 2019, the neurologist informed me that the effects, left side numbness and loss of movement in hand, fingers, leg and foot along with difficulty speaking could continue to improve over a year after. Have you considered further physical therapy which was recommended for me. Also I agree, never give up ! Wishing you the best.

Something else. Whoever came up with the "there's nothing else to do after 6 months" was plainly talking out of where the sun don't shine.

I continue to improve 30 months after my stroke. I do not plan to stop improving. Do not let ANYONE tell you that you will not continue to improve. I have engaged over 25 different therapies over the 30 months. Keep working, try everything. I continue to try new therapies. Everything pushes me toward recovery.
