All insulin are effective, you have take as per your case, there are multiple type of insulin.

Rapid-acting

Short-acting

Intermediate-acting

Long-acting

Pre-mixed

In most of above, there more types based on combination of insulin premix agent like 30:70 & 50:50 & based on concentration like 40IU/ml & 100IU/ml. For each type there is separate type of syringe, In India for 40IU its red colored where for 100IU its orange colored. Different brands name it differently.

For example - NovoNordisc Mixtard (Pre-mixed I gues) 50, 100IU/ml. Should be taken with orange syringe.

Take as per your doctor advice, you can experiment if you have glucometer & you understand how much quantity of existing insulin gives you hypo so that you can try & test with new combination without taking much risk.

Regular insulin will start degrading even in your hand temperature, so it is most important not to take out insulin more then 2-5 minutes out of fridge. People tend to keep it outside after taking the insulin shots, thats why when you first open vial it tend to give you better results, but latter you start getting higher blood glucose readings bcoz the insulin quality has degraded.

In case of Penfills which come in pen shape syringe can last up to 30 days even in room temperature.

You have to target that you blood sugar level should be in range after meal, as per medical guidelines.
