Hello barani and thank you your reply. I am now going to be mindful of my carbs and sugars after the diagnosis but have been mindful of my diet due to being prediabetic .. I will cut out sugar now also but have had sweeteners recently. I eat mainly freshly prepared food and am don’t often use ready made foods. I was previously Keto for a year and although I enjoyed the way of eating it didn’t help with my weight loss. I subsequently found that my thyroid levels were not in a good range and my endocrinologist said that would have made weight loss difficult. In terms of exercising I am now reduced to very little due to fatigue but walking with my sister on her dog walks was my limit. I am a nurse on a busy ward but have been off now for 12 months. I am hoping as and when I improve I will try to swim and start to walk with my sister. Again thanks for asking

Delilahmy ,Thanks for letting us know about yourself. An easy modification that you can do with your diet is to add good fats and more complex carbs as you have already tried keto. Please observe all the foodstuff that goes inside your mouth and find out the best alternative for the same. For e.g if you are having milk, please see if you can get a A2 raw milk. Stick to non-GMO and organic foodstuff as maximum as possible. It will have a positive impact on your health. Cheers.

UK, NHS, HbA1c numbers are below:

"HbA1c testing in diagnosing diabetes

The World Health Organisation (WHO) suggests the following diagnostic guidelines for diabetes:

HbA1c below 42 mmol/mol (6.0%): Non-diabetic.

HbA1c between 42 and 47 mmol/mol (6.0–6.4%): Impaired glucose regulation (IGR) or Prediabetes.

HbA1c of 48 mmol/mol (6.5%) or over: Type 2 diabetes

If your HbA1c test returns a reading of 6.0–6.4% , that indicates prediabetes. Your doctor should work with you to suggest appropriate lifestyle changes that could reduce your risk of developing type 2 diabetes."

You can reduce your HbA1c number by controlling your food intake, watching out for free and hidden sugar in food and drinks. No snacking, regular exercise.

I am not sure why you doctor or a diabetic nurse did nor suggest life style change before medication. There is a book X-PERT help, written by NHS specialists. You can ask your doctor or diabetic course to be referred to attend the course, this course can help you to control type 2 by life style change.

Good luck.

Thankyou Sandybrown for your reply and help. My doctor discussed lifestyle and pointed me to the NHS website for lifestyle advice a few months ago. Yesterday I was started on metformin ….. I feel too fatigued to follow any exercise plan as my mobility is far less than I would like. I lack motivation as now find it difficult. I know I should push myself now and hope that I can

HbA1c by age, this is from a South Indian doctor.

HbA1C by age target?

Below 6 8.5 %

6-12 8.0 %

12-19 7.5 %

20-45 Below 6.5 %

46-70 Below 7.0 %

70 + Below 7.5 to 8.0 %

As you are getting towards 70 therefore 7.5 to 8.0 %.

In your case 69 age, 6.6% 49 mmol/mol.

46 to 70 age, HbA1c 7 %, 53 mmol/mol.

70 + age , HbA1c 7.5 to 8 %, 58 to 64 mmol/mol.

I have been managing my type 2 by life style change and following South Asian doctor's numbers. If you can eat Meth, veg, this is a green leaf, which is grown from Fenugreek.

Also over night soaked Fenugreek and eat in the morning. There are a lot of over ground green leaf veg you can eat. Underground, sweet potato is best.

Sri Lanka cinnamon, a small quantity boiled, one cup in the evening and one cup in the morning can also help.

Time controlled eating, eat evening meal before 8 PM and leave at least 40 hours before breakfast. Lunch any time ,all food small quantity and no snacking between meals.

Take care.
