For Type 2 , we already have a weekly injection (non- insulin type) which are equally effective...these are already in clinical practice across most countries across the world including India since last 4- 5 yearsThese are called GLP1 ( Glucagon like peptide 1) receptor agonists.
Long-acting GLP-1 RAs approved for use include:
dulaglutide (Trulicity)
exenatide extended-release (Bydureon)
liraglutide (Victoza)
semaglutide (Ozempic)
Victoza is taken once per day. Other long-acting GLP-1 RAs are taken weekly.
If your doctor has advised someone with Type 2 DM for daily insulin injection , please check with him if you are eligible for weekly GLP1 in stead of daily insulin injection. Though the cost of weekly GLP1 could be higher .

As of date GLP-1 receptor antagonists is the latest drug in form of weekly / daily injection for Type 2 and perhaps the only one drug which is claimed to have three benefits ! 1. CV protection
2. Beta cell protection
3. Weight reduction for obese
Another such drug discovered earlier was SGLT-2 inhibitor...
GLP-1 oral drug for T2 is launched in USA....I am not sure if there is someone in this forum based out of USA can check this up.
I learnt in another Diabetic forum where most of the members are from Usa/Canada, GLP-1 weekly injection for T2 is becoming very popular and Doctors prescribe this directly if the patient fails to control blood sugar by diet, exercise & Metformin.
Other oral drugs have several side effects .
