Jackfruit is now clinically proven to reduce blood sugar levels and help reverse diabetes. According to a study[link:diabetes.diabetesjournals.o...] published by the American Diabetes Association, it brings down glycosylated haemoglobin (HbA1c), fasting blood glucose (FBG), and postprandial glucose (PPG).
The conclusion of the study is based on a randomized, double-blind design where 20 of the 40 participants with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) were given 30 grams of green flour made from jackfruit for three months. The rest used regular wheat or rice flour to make rotis or idlis.
At the end of the study, that was approved by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), it was found that people who mixed flour in their idli batter or wheat dough showed improvement in their plasma glucose levels.

raw jackfruit causes lot of gas problems. This again leads to of indigestion issues. Maybe consumed as vegetable in direct form once in week is a good choice. chole, channa, tur dal, green chillies, peas moong dal are all gas causing items and this kind of food suits only for field workers who work very hard. For people who sit and work it is better to avoid these foods as it disrupts the harmony of harmones. Everyday eating at regular intervals and sleeping early and waking up early and cooking whole food in earthern vessels, and also kicking out refined sugar and refined salt in our foods is the key to any disorder.
Excellent piece of advise soni1 . You summarized it very well. A personal advise: The best way to avoid gas problems when eating jack fruit is to add Ghee to it. Please try it and let me know if that works.
thanks, the basic idea is to avoid all foods that causes inflammation. We might buy organic vegetables, but if we microwave them or cook in aluminum or steel vessels, this will again cause problems. We have to get the basics right first. Whether boiling milk or making curds it has to be earthern vessels, this will give lot of beneifts for long term health. Strictly no no stick tawa, the cast iron is the best. The best thing is to live like our ancestors, sincr we dont work hard like them, less consumption will suit our present lifestyle.
I think Jack fruit flower doesn't cause so much of gas. If you have jackfruit tree you can have access to it. One key point is to grow your own food. This will reduce consumption of processed food full of preservatives and chemicals. And also we should look into food mile. Food mile is the distance between place of pproduce and place of consumption. Higher the food mile the food becomes less sustainable. Even if it is organic veggies, if food mile is high, produce becomes devoid of active enzymes and it will not add nutrition to the body. I grow my food and this keeps me active too
It does cause gas and eating natural raw jackfruit is much better than flour. I have experienced it, and why rawjack alone? All gourd vegetables are excellent for health.
Consuming as a vegetable once in a week is fine but not a flour and mix with all our dishes and eat. Our BG might be controlled but it will certainly give lot of gas issues and disrupt the harmony of body.
To minimise gas I boil dal or raw jackfruit or any thing that create gas with 3/4 Sichuan peppercorn (Indian). After boiling i remove the peppercorns and drain the water. I use lots of fennel and ginger during cooking. But still there are some cruciferous vegetables which cause gas
Any veg that are boiled and the boiled water thrown away is a waste of all goodness from the veg. What is the benefit of this?
Boiling rice and giving the boiled water to cow is a better way there by starch is removed. Cooking rice is a modern rice cooker is easy but the starch is still there, lot of cabs.!!
Steaming or cooking in butter or olive oil of an veg and fruit is a better way.
I remove water from all legumes after boiling because it cause lots of gas. So as is raw jack fruit. This is for a patient who is a diabetic with gas problems. I remove water from rice because of high carbs. I use boiling method for rice and I don't use pressure cooker. I don't waste the water. I give it to plants. Ultimately I need to follow what suits. We need to follow different cooking techniques depending upon the nature of the vegetable. We have to add spices such as fennel, sichuan peppercorns, ginger etc to combat gassiness. Vegetables which is not gassy can be sauteed to retain nutrients
Food contain macro and micro nutrients but also antinutritional factors. Major antinutrients are saponins, tannins, phytic acid, gossypol, lectins, protease inhibitors, amylase inhibitors and goitrogens.Antinutrients combine with nutrients and reduces the bioavailability of nutrients and other problems like gas, indigestion etc.
There are various traditional processing methods such as fermentation, sprouting, debranning, steaming, parboiling, soaking etc used to reduce the antinutritional components in the Food. These methods alone or in combination reduces the level of antinutritional components in the Food.
In fact in south india we boil certain vegetables in tamarind water so as to reduce the effect of antinutrients.
In Sri Lanka, we took veg from the back garden. In UK the veg come by plane from Asia and Africa. This is life in UK. In the summer we can grow few veg in the back garden, tasty but many difficulties.
We still enjoy "fresh" veg flown from Sri Lanka and other parts of the world.
I have read on this subject before. In Malaysia and Singapore, they make jackfruit curry, seeds fried or boiled. Ripe fruit segments are sold in small containers.
There is allergy as well.
there are many fruits and veg sold in powder form and all are good for health.
