I read the below from an article in the news paper.

"Ethnicity can also affect the risk of some health conditions. For example, adults of Asian origin may have a higher risk of health problems at BMI levels below 25."

Under 18.5: Underweight

18.5 - 24.9: Healthy

25 - 29.9: Overweight

30 or greater: Obese

I am finding it difficult to understand the above statement.?

Could be true.. because I have seen and read about many low BMI type 2's in South Asia. .. Are you suggesting that Asians with BMI below 25 should increase their weight to prevent Diabetic Risk ?

In UK and USA most type 2's are overweight (25-30 BMI ) and obese ( 30+ BMI) and all studies indicate positive results if they reduce weight...

So , it comes to reducing weight / BMI for citizens of UK / USA and increasing weight of South Asians if they are thin type 2's would help taming diabetes !🙂

Hi,

I am not suggesting any thing, I am confused with the comment I read!

If appears there is a different BMI chart for South Asians?

Have you seen a different BMI chart for South Asians and compared the chart with other people in the world?

Don't get confused 🙂

There are studies to indicate that BMI plays role differently with different ethnic groups....that is what your article also says and that is what my findings too from different studies.....

Obese / high BMI , excess circulating insulin & Insulin resistance (IR ) seems to be the main cause of type 2's for MOST people in the west and .... Insulin deficiency, Low BMI seems to be the main cause of type 2 's for MOST people in South Asia...
