There are several brands of glucometer in the market. Accu-Chek, Onetouch Verio Flex, Gluco One, Onetouch select Plus, Accusure Simple, Contour Plus, etc.)

One Doctor advised me to select Onetouch and I am using One touch Select. Since I am checking blood sugar on daily basis, the blood sugar is controlled at optimum level.

In clinical laboratories, blood Plasma sugar is analysed. But in glucometers, whole blood is analysed. This will result 15% less estimate of blood sugar in glucometers.

What difference does it make?

The strips gets destroyed if they are exposed to moisture for longer duration. I had taken 2 stripes thrice from small plastic box and taken to my office last week to check PP and was wrapped in small white paper but when I took it for reading all the time it showed E-1 in accucheck active glucometer. My doctor said the plastic container strips are opened often and stripes may give erroneous result due to exposure to moisture and advised to use individual stripes that are wrapped with blister foil or aluminum foil. These stripes will not be affected by moisture and Will give accurate result.so I am planning to buy a new glucometer with individual stripes wrapped in aluminum foil

Have you talked with your doctor? Once you can figure out which system you will have to get, you need to get a prescription for the strips/lancets.

What is the product's description for both meter and strips?

sandybrown profile image
sandybrown in reply torshrikant786

Hi,

There are many options on this "Abott freestyle " test device, the strips comes in 10,50 and 100 strip pack foil wrapped! May be to buy a 10 pack to carry it to work and have a 100 pack for home use depending how many you use in a day!!.

Depending up on where you are planning to buy this device, get proper advice from the shop that sell this device. Please do not go for the very basic as you are looking for accurate measurement.

I did Google for "Abott freestyle optimum", the Internet is full of information on this product.

Good day to you - problem with that sort of question, given the coverage this site has, you will probably be given details for a machine that you will not find available in your part of the World. The best person to talk to is your pharmacist or do some research on the internet and write down a few you think might be good and then ask the pharmacist which one they recommend.

I HAVE 3 GLUCOMETERS. BUT I FIND ABBOTT'S OPTIUM XCEED IS MORE ACCURATE THAN OTHERS. EACH OF ITS STRIPS IS WRAPPED SEPARATELY IN FOIL SO THEY ARE NOT EXPOSED TO MOISTURE WHEN YOU TAKE OUT 1 STRIP FOR USE.

THE READING IN GLUCOMETER IS HIGHER BY ABOUT 12 TO 15 UNITS AS COMPARED TO LAB TEST AS BLOOD IS TAKEN FROM CAPILLARY FOR GLUCOMETER AND FOR LAB TEST FROM VEINS.THIS I HAVE ANALYSED FOR ABOUT 30 TESTS EACH OF FASTING AND PP READINGS FOR ABOUT 20 READINGS EACH.

Thank You ONIL for valuable information. I am using Accucheck Activ since 1year and due to negligence i could not test for HBA1C and serum creatinine level for last 6 month. A week ago i went to renowned pathology lab for above test and found my creatinine level was 2.35g/dl and HBA1C was 7.5.I immediately rush to my doctor and he told me that your glucometer is giving faulty reading and doctor has Abott freestyle optium glucometer and he took reading from his glucometer it was 255(PP) while my glucometer gave 157 as PP reading.I checked the reading tonight also with his glucometer(204PP) and mine showed 185.He has advised to use glucometer with strips which are blister foil pack to avoid damge strip due to moisture attack as ONIL said in his post. Now doctor has added NEFROZONE and EUREPA 2mg .I again went to another pathology lab 3 days after first test of creatinine and reading is 2.1 and blood urea 44%. I am also taking some homeopathic medicine to lower creatinine level(Serum Angullae 30 potency 2 to 3 drops in mouth 3 times and NL-2) both are very effective to reduce creatinine as there is no medicine in allopathy to lower creatinine. So all this happened to me due to faulty reading of glucometer.Earier 2 years back i used Accusure Gold glucometer,it showed closer result to lab test but after 2 year the result was faulty and after seeing recommendation in this group I bought Accucheck active. I want to know are control solutions available for this brand to check accuracy of glucometer? Or How to check efficacy of glucometer?

Most kits come with a control solution to make sure the system works the correct way. If it doesn't have one in the kit already, ask your Pharmacist to include it in the kit when you go to pick it up.

Ok.I will ask pharmacist to provide control solution.

I contacted Pharmacist 20 days back and he told me to contact customer care Acucheck active for control solution as there is life time warranty on Acucheck active instrument. So i contacted their customer care and explained them that my instrument is giving erroneous result ,and want your help,he asked my address and sent control solution (free of cost) to check accuracy of instrument a week back. Three days ago i again contacted their customer care after receiving control solution, and checked my meter as per instruction given over phone. They had sent two control solutions 1 with blue cap and another with red cap.The blue cap solution gave reading as 45(Range written on strip container was 41 to 71 and matches with ranges) while red cap solution gave reading as 129(Range written on strip container was 137 to 186 and does not matches with ranges) confirms that the instrument is not giving accurate results. One has to test both the solution separately on strips as we test using blood samples. After getting above result from the meter the customer care asked me to send acucheck active meter without battery with remaining unused strips through courier for calibration/replacement of meter, which i sent back to them yesterday. This is the update regarding Acucheck Active. If any one have similar problem about faulty reading of any glucometer they can contact customer care provided your instrument is on life time replacement warranty..I am very much satisfied with acucheck active customer care service.
