We often discuss so many things about how to manage diabetes and sugar.

But one thing which I feel is often understated is importance of Food substitutions.

Like, there are so many options which we can tweak, can substitute with healthier options without it costing a bomb or changing our taste too much..

Would love to hear everyone's thoughts.

Things my family changed due to my father being a diabetic:

1. Bananas instead of Potatoes

- Being Jain, anyway my sister used to consumer banana made items- Fries, Chips, Patties for Burgers and Sabjis. We just extended it to whole family for most things. And believe me, the taste does not really change too much.

2. Using Fortune Vivo oil over others

- This one was a Kickass decision. Being related to that industry, I knew benefits of Rice bran oil but when Fortune came with Fortune Vivo, it was perfect for us. My mom and sister didn't like the taste initially for around 7-10 days but since then, it's been 2 years+ and we haven't faced Any issue in quality or taste. And did find impact, especially as we're tracking Sugar levels of dad every day for 6 months. Love this product.

Apart from above 2, we obviously try to use wheat instead of maida and try to use Jaggery instead of sugar wherever possible, but I guess those are common changes.

What other things you feel we can change? And share your experiences on same :)

So good to hear of the changes you are making Random24. At home we have been using rice bran oil from 15 years. I must try raw banana as substitute for potatoes, although we do like banana in sabjis. To cope with sudden hunger pangs, my daughter drinks a lot of buttermilk. We spice it with green coriander, ginger, jeera, green chillies and salt all ground up together and mixed with the buttermilk. And you know, it’s great when the whole family buys into healthy practices. All the best!

Great! That's what this group does best- exchanging ideas.. I'm so happy to be here😊 I have made these changes:

-sugarless ragi cookies in place of marie/multivit cookies

- 2 cups of turmeric-cinnamon tea daily in place of routine assam tea+milk. I also make several herbal teas.

- I've gone very high on vegetables and fruits. While I eat all fruits, I skip high-starch vegetables.

😊

I congratulate all who change their menu and food stuff according to the BS.As per I know raw banana comes under resistant starch and releases suger slowly. So one must try and note .The buttermilk with corriander, ginger, chilli, rock salt is not only refreshing but low glycemic drink ideally suited to diabetics.Thanks.
