PPBS 217 is definitely high. If left untreated could gradually lead to diabetic complications such as Neuropathy , nephropathy, retinopathy , CV risk, diabetic leg amputation.

Please take medicines as prescribed by the doctor and implement a change in lifestyle , diet. Daily Exercise can help reduce blood sugar. There are lot of education material available in the internet. You may like to invest in a glycometer to monitor your blood glucose level at home. It would cost only INR 1500. Low carbo diet would be helpful.

With regards to the medicines Glycomet is the first line of drugs commonly prescribed. Well known medicine good reputation for least side effects.

It appears you also have high cholesterol and that is why the doctor has prescribed a statin- novastat which is Rosuvastatin. Statin is a very common cholesterol reducing medicine.

Lipaglyn is Saroglitazar - a PPAR class of drugs discovered by Zydus cadilla in India in 2014 for reducing Triglyceride currently approved only in India. Not yet approved by US FDA. Long term side effects are not known.

However what is surprising is that when Statin is prescribed which could reduce triglyceride as well , there was no need for another medicine Lipaglyn. You may Please take a second opinion from a reputed cardiologist / endocrinologist.

A second lipid agent can be added if statin is not adequate to control triglyceride and that too when proven medicines like Fenofibrate is available to reduce triglyceride , why a new medicine Lipaglyn has been prescribed - something fishy.

First beforetaking drugs cutdown your food intake to 75%. Then if you are physically fit walk for half an hour daily. Do not take aereated drinks. Then check your sugar levels. Repeat twice before going for medicines.

Lipaglyn 4 mg and novastast 10 have more or less the same function. Hence if you take both tablets, it will become double dosage.

Lipaglyn (brand name) Saroglitazar (generic name)

Novastast (brand name) Rosuvastatin (generic name)
