There is no specific diet prescribed for a diabetic dinner, but one should follow certain guidelines and choose a menu that suits his tastes and preferences. There are two concepts to be understood to fix a diet. One is glycemic index assigned to each item of food depending on their nature to spike the blood sugar immediately after consumption. For example glucose powder has an index of 100 which is high.Rice and other cereal grains have an index of around 50 which is considered medium.Foods like palak, eggs etc have an index of 0 or close to 0,which is considered low. So,a diabetic should consciously avoid high index foods as far as possible,be moderate in consuming medium index foods and choose more of low index foods.Such a combination will release glucose at a slower rate and the body will be able to cope with it.If you search on the web,you can learn about the glycemic index of each item of food that we consume so that we can make wiser choices about our diet.Second concept is called glycemic load.It means the number of calories that you put into your system at each meal. The load should not be too high or too low. This can be fixed by trying different combinations of foods and monitoring the sugar levels. You can then arrive at diet plans that are best suited for you.
