I think they have no choice.It should be their default diet.Article is educative.
Yes, Very low carb diet will reduce insulin requirement and blood sugars will be more predictable.
Pearl barley has a GI or Gly load which are pehaps the lowest in grains. Instead of millets (which in my view are overrated) use barley which adapts well to Indian food. Barley well cooked can be used as a substitute for rice. Combined with plenty of green vegetables may hlp with your problem. It is strnge that we do not recognize this ancient and important grain.
