RatiG,

What’s your height, what was your HbA1c when you were diagnosed. maintain a healthy weight as per the bmi reference, eat healthy, exercise a bit. You can bring down ur HbA1c from 6.1 to less than 5.5 If u do the above things. Buy a glucometer to monitor your bsl.

Your fbs and ppbs are higher than reference range but HbA1c indicates that you are not a diabetic as conventional thinking.Whatever it is,you treat this as an early warning and start remedial measures.You might consider reducing weight by few kilos,increase physical activity,avoid high glycemic foods and lead s disciplined lifestyle.Also get yourself tested once again for fbs and ppbs at a reputed lab to confirm the real status.

For all practical purpose you are diabetic.

Your problem seems to be insulin resistance due to overweight. Once you start losing weight, insulin resistance will reduce resulting in lower blood sugar numbers. One of the most efficient ways to lose weight and control blood sugar is Low carb lifestyle. You should reduce the carbohydrate intake considerably. Please read about LCHF diet on our website. Many people including myself have benefited from such diets. You can find lots of information on the internet also.

Self-monitoring of blood sugar will be quite helpful in the beginning. Buy a Glucose monitor and strips. That way you can eliminate/reduce those foods that spike your blood sugar.

If you need any assistance in choosing your menu, please let us know. Do not worry at all. You will be able to overcome this metabolic disorder soon.

Also reduce wt. Doctor did the right thing by not prescribing medicines. You will surely be able to manage by diet.

Your body mass index is 32.5 and you are obese. You should reduce BMI to less than 25.

A weight-control strategy might include

:

* Choosing low-fat, low-calorie foods

* Eating smaller portions

* Drinking water instead of sugary drinks

* Being physically active

Fasting blood sugar should be less than 100 mg/dL and postprandial blood sugar should be less than 140 mg/dL.

Do not consume food after sunset.

Reduce carbohydrate in your diet.fried foods.

Avoid bakery foods and

Hi RatiG,

I think you will get confused with such different suggestions. I will try to explain in simple manner and step wise considering that you are active and do exercise regularly.

Step 1 - Buy Gluco-meter. Start measuring blood sugar after each meal and record it with your diet.

Step 2 - Remove all sugary foods from diet (You will see major improvement in your blood sugar reading)

Step 3 - Remove all bakery items (any item made with white flour or maida) and rice (Further improvement in blood sugar readings)

Step 4 - Stop using all types of vegetable oils and start cooking foods without oil. If necessary use only virgin coconut oil for cooking (will improve blood sugar readings further with improvement in lipids)

Step 5 - If your readings are in target range (preferably in non-diabetic range), no need to change the diet further.

Step 6 - If your readings are not in target range, then remove grains and add good fats (e.g. nuts, extra virgin olive oil etc) in your diet (further improvement in sugar readings)

Step 7 - Replace carbohydrates with good fats till you achieve non-diabetic sugar readings.

Remember that, carbohydrates have more impact on sugar readings, hence need to restrict those to the level our body can handle. Check your ideal weight as per your height, calculate Kcal requirement. Suppose you require 2000 Kcal diet for your target weight, then consume 500 Kcal less (i.e. 1500 Kcal) till you achieve your target weight. Once you achieve your target weight, then you can slowly increase your diet till weight gets stabilized.

Hope it helps..
