oral tablets may stop working after a few years due to body resistance to such drugs.consult doctor and switch to other remedies

Medicines alone will not help you to manage diabetes. You have to adopt a comprehensive approach to be successful.Firstly, you should become thoroughly knowledgeable about diabetes so that you can identify your problems and formulate your own strategies to overcome diabetes.Next, even if you are not overweight, try to shed some weight. Most people find it beneficial in reducing sugar levels. You should be conscious of what kind of diet you are eating. You should eat such foods that cause least sugar spikes. You have to avoid or reduce sugar, sweets, starchy foods like potato, beet etc.Consume rice, wheat and other grains moderately.Consume more of pulses like channa, moong etc, greens and vegetables that are rich in fiber and essential nutrients. If you eat non veg, eggs, fish and chicken are good choices.Next important step is to increasing physical activity.Go for a daily brisk walk for about 40 minutes. It will help you greatly. Then, you have to avoid stressful situations.Do yoga or breathing exercises to relax mentally. Go for regular medical checkups every quarter and follow the medical advise scrupulously. If you have any doubts, come back to this forum.

Over time, people who have diabetes and high blood sugar can develop serious or life-threatening complications, including heart disease, stroke, kidney problems, nerve damage, and eye problems.

Taking medication(s), making lifestyle changes (e.g., diet, exercise, quitting smoking), and regularly checking your blood sugar may help to manage your diabetes and improve your health. This therapy may also decrease your chances of having a heart attack, stroke, or other diabetes-related complications such as kidney failure, nerve damage (numb, cold legs or feet; decreased sexual ability in men and women), eye problems, including changes or loss of vision, or gum disease. Your doctor and other healthcare providers will talk to you about the best way to manage your diabetes.

You should control your blood sugar by adopting diabetic diet and engaging regular walking at least for 30 minutes daily.

In order to prevent future diabetic complications, you should undergo the following tests periodically.

A: HbA1c. HbA1c is a lab test that shows the average level of blood sugar (glucose) over the previous 3 months. It shows how well you are controlling your diabetes.

B: Control your high Blood pressure, if any. Normal blood pressure- <120/80 mmHg.

C: Control your blood Cholesterol: Normal cholesterol < 200 mg/dL. LDL <100 mg/dL HDL > 40 mg/dL Triglyceride < 150 mg/dL.

D: Diabetic education. Dental check-up should be done in every 6 months.

E: Eye examination for glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and cataract.

F: Foot examination

G: Glucose monitoring. Fasting or postprandial blood sugar may be checked daily and avoid foods that elevates blood sugar.

H: Health maintenance immunization against influenza and pneumococcal pneumonia.

I: Indications for specialty care. Heart, kidney, thyroid and eye should be checked periodically by concerned specialists.

* Overall, the risk for death among people with diabetes is about twice that of people of similar age without diabetes.

* Adults with diabetes have heart disease death rates about 2 to 4 times higher than adults without diabetes.

* The risk for stroke is 2 to 4 times higher among people with diabetes.
