Your sugar levels are presently slightly on the higher side. But,diabetes is a progressive disorder and may become more problematic as you grow older.Better you take corrective steps from now onwards.Firstly, you have to shed several kilos of weight.Second, have control over what you eat.Avoid sugar and sweets and vegetables like potato and beet which are rich in carbohydrates.Prefer to have more of greens, vegetables, pulses, dairy, poultry etc which have less carbohydrates. This is important because diet plays a predominant role in diabetes management.Next, try to improve your physical activity. You may walk for about 40 minutes daily or swim.Lastly, knowing diabetes is vital for managing it.This forum is ideal for doing that.Use the search function on this page to access the wealth of knowledge shared by learned diabetics in the past.

You are in the starting stages.Metformin is a time tested medicine for diabetic control. I am on Metformin for 30 years and I am now 67 years old. Keep an eye on your weight and adhere to regular walking -40 mins/day.Keep off from direct sugar and lead a normal life. All the best.

Start with Metformin as recommended.Check for fasting Blood sugar every week on a fixed day.Any abnormal feeling, report back to your doctor.

Your body mass index is 31.6 and you are obese.

For HbA1c less than 7.5% mono drug therapy is recommended and metformin is the first choice.

Metformin is used alone or with other medications, including insulin, to treat type 2 diabetes (condition in which the body does not use insulin normally and, therefore, cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood). Metformin is in a class of drugs called biguanides. Metformin helps to control the amount of glucose (sugar) in your blood. It decreases the amount of glucose you absorb from your food and the amount of glucose made by your liver. Metformin also increases your body's response to insulin, a natural substance that controls the amount of glucose in the blood.

You should give more importance to diabetic diet and daily exercise.
