I am giving you some suggestions based on my practical experience as a diabetic. You may consider them and use if found useful.
Diabetes is a metabolic disorder which is a result of the pancreatic gland in our body either produces little or no insulin or the body has developed resistance to insulin. In both cases, the body cells do not receive the glucose needed for production of energy because insulin is essential for glucose to enter the cells. This results in the blood sugar levels to increase beyond acceptable levels, though your body cells are starved for glucose. This condition is very bad for our well being and over long term may result in severe complications.
Controlling blood sugar levels is a tough job but it is not impossible if you realize that everything is in your own hands. This is so,because though you may get good advise from doctors and dieticians,it is ultimately Y O U that will have to take all the necessary steps to successfully control diabetes. I am giving certain general suggestions based on my personal experience which you may consider and adopt based on your personal choice.
Diet plays a very important role in managing diabetes. You should reduce intake of foods that are rich in carbohydrates like sweets, rice, wheat, other grains ,potato, beet and other root vegetables rich in starch. You should eat more of vegetables, sprouts, greens and salads that give you lot of fiber, vitamins and minerals. Each meal you take should be smaller but you may have 5 or 6 meals instead 3 meals a day.
Exercise is very important to control diabetes. Daily brisk walking or jogging for at least 40 to 60 minutes is ideal. Such exercise will consume lots of energy and sugar levels come down accordingly.
Mental stress aggravates diabetes. Lead a stress free life by adopting relaxation techniques like music meditation, yoga and breathing exercises.
Consult a diabetologist and get prescribed for medication if necessary and comply with the doctor's advise scrupulously.
Please remember that the most important person in managing your diabetes is Y O U.
Below is a an article I read in web journal which I am pasting. You will find it interesting.
Two ways to dodge diabetes
Given the epidemic of diabetes sweeping the United States and many other countries, it can seem as though developing diabetes is inevitable. Not so. A landmark clinical trial called the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) showed that a healthy diet and regular exercise can prevent type 2 diabetes. This three year study found that people who lose 5% to 7% of their weight and exercise about 30 minutes a day can reduce diabetes risk by more than half.
The Look AHEAD study also showed that losing weight and exercising can be a powerful way to fend off diabetes. The trial compared lifestyle changes (portion-controlled diets with prepared meals and moderate-intensity exercise for at least 175 minutes a week) with simple diabetes education. After one year, people in the lifestyle group had lost an average of 8.6% of their body weight, compared with 0.7% in diabetes education group. With the combination of weight loss and exercise came improvements in blood sugar, blood pressure, and HDL (good) cholesterol. Later follow-up showed that these improvements extended over the first four years of the study.
What’s more, the lifestyle changes also improved quality of life, based on questionnaires designed to assess the Look AHEAD participants’ physical and mental health. The greatest gains were physical changes — for example, compared with the control group, people in the lifestyle group were more fit, felt more vital, and had less body pain. They also reported feeling less depressed.
Losing weight and exercising are simple ways to avoid diabetes. But they can be hard to do. If you’re ready to make some changes to avoid the life-long consequences of diabetes, talk with your doctor. Together you can create a manageable plan that increases your chances of success.
As rightly observed, insulin is the only alternative. Aside from it's dosage, as per the doctor's advice, Januvia (Sitagliptin Phosphate) 100 mg tablet everyday 'll be of help. Strict diet regimen together with brisk walking for 45 minutes at least 6 days a week would go a long way in controlling the ailment.
Peddannayya
the combination tablet of glimiperide with metformin is not good.
Extended release makes the availability of drug and so your sugar control unpredictable.
sometimes it releases too littile and often too late to be of any use. switch back to plain metformin with or just before food.
Glimiperide acts on liver and needs to be taken half hour before food for good results.
hence avoid the combination tablet
Surely Hb1Ac of 10 very bad. But TRY THIS . it is very very effective.and will bring down dependence on medicines. do not stop medicines now.
1. take 5 lady fingers(okra) trim the top and bottom ends slit it vertically and dip in glass of water at night and in the morning drink the gel like water.
2. Take one tea spoon full of Fenugreek seeds(Methi seeds) with water in the morning
3. Walk briskly for one hour in the morning and do Pranayam daily.
Try these two things for 3/4 months and keep monitoring your blood sugar level every week and ensure it does not fall below 100. then check Hb1Ac after 3 months it will surely come down.
HI chakreshjain, on 18th of June 13 my FBS= 246 & PPBS=385. today i.e 8th July 13 my FBS=131 at 8.25am & PPBS= 196 at 12.05pm; Just Checked. I have achieved this with only 1 hour of walking about 5 kms to 6 kms 6 days a week with known small excises. I would like to keep my sugar really under control. I shall start using lady fingers in the morning. Kindly clarify me that taking lady finger water and Fenugreek seeds before going for walk or even after walk would help? Regards
preferable before walk but can be taken later, but keep very close watch on your sugar levels every day. avoid all starch, carbodydrates like potato, rice, underground veggies, breads and sweets.
I have been diagnosed with diabetes since the last 6 months and Dr. has prescribed Glimy-M - 500 mg morning and Glimy-M - 250 at night. FBS comes to 100 or 105 and PPBS is 150 depending on what I have eaten. If an egg or prawns, it rises to 200. Am I normal or have I to go back to the Doctor. Mr. Mpath said that combination tablets of Glimy and Met are dangerous.
Hi mohammed1809,
HbA1c 10 is very high & risky. You must bring it down soon, but need not panic.
Try the Long Wheat Mash Diet Regimen along with present medication; you will see the improvement in a week.
