I have found that bitter melon helps to lower blood sugar when eaten. Bitter melon tastes great with scrambled eggs for breakfast, and also in vegetable stews.

It’s nice to know that the eggs and bitter melon is helping you. Did your doctor recommend this to be done?

First of all I want to apologize for posting about the bitter melon. Mr Champak045 seems to be very offended by my action. Secondly, no doctor told me about the effects of bitter melon on my blood sugar readings and control. I just concluded its effects on my blood sugar. It is a personal observation and as such I shouldn't have posted it.

In traditional medicine of India different parts of the plant are used as claimed treatments for diabetes (particularly Polypeptide-p, an insulin analogue), and as a stomachic, laxative, antibilious, emetic, anthelmintic agent, for the treatment of cough, respiratory diseases, skin diseases, wounds, ulcer, gout, and rheumatism.

Diabetes. Research results so far are conflicting and inconclusive. Some studies show that bitter melon fruit, fruit juice, or extract improves glucose tolerance, reduces blood sugar levels, and lowers HbA1c (a measure of blood sugar control over time) in people with type 2 diabetes. However, these studies have some flaws. Other research has not been positive.

Thanks for sharing your information. I've eaten bitter melon since childhood, growing up in the Philippines. Perhaps bitter melon works for some and not for others as a blood sugar control helper.

Bitter gourd is the wonder food for all diabetic patients. It significantly reduces the sugar level in the blood. It contains a substance called charantin which has hypoglycaemic effect on diabetic patients . Bitter gourd also increases the insulin sensitivity in the body.According to some clinical studies, polypeptide-p, charantin, and vicine present in it are believed to help in maintaining normal blood glucose levels. They contain lectin that acts like insulin and reduces glucose quantity by acting on various peripheral tissues. It has been found that bitter gourd activates APMK that regulates the glucose uptake.According to Ayurveda juice of a bittermelon combined with juice of a tomato and a cucumber taken on empty stomach in the morning helps in controlling high sugar levels in diabetes patients .
