you may be surprised at the carb counts of healthy Oatmeal....

For instance, one cup of cooked regular or instant oatmeal provides 32 grams of carbs, only 4 of which are fiber (23).

Steel-cut oats are less processed than other types of oatmeal and generally considered healthier. However, a mere half cup of cooked steel-cut oats has 29 grams of carbs, including 5 grams of fiber (24).

And being diabetic our aim should be to avoid carbs as much as possible....

Oatmeal should be avoided for high carbs contents...

Thank you very much authoritynutrition, I love oatmeal but every time I eat it my BS goes up! I even have the GF oatmeal and there is actually 40grm of carbs in 1/2 dry cup of oatmeal. When will people stop associating "old addegas" as a food being good for a diabetic when it clearly is not!

So processed oat meal is very bad for diabetes...and steel cut oats are just bad... :)

It is a misconception that oat meal is the best meal for diabetic. No so, and it contains more carbohydrates and when consumed there is a rise in blood sugar , immediately after a period of one hour. Instead our conventional foods like iddly, oil less dosa, and more so with the maida dosa without oil, do not rise the blood sugar , when consumed in limits. Heavy fiber content will tear your brush border of the intestine and raises many bloating problems. Small grains are not meant for the human consumption. there are animals which can digest their fiber by cellulase , which they have. Human have NO cellulase enzyme . There is no need for fear for diabetic. Small frequent feeds, will be very helpful, but many not be practical. Make it practical the problem is solved.

I have a different view. You are emphasizing "oil free " but it's not oil but carbs that raise bs.

Our whole git including brush border has a very good protection from mucus. Only sharp objecs cut the intestines. When gastric acid strong enough to dissolve metal can't damage git how can fibre git?

Bloating occurs because of digestion of these fibres by the gut bacteria .

I drink oatmeal porridge with milk or milk powder (Everyday whitener). Still my blood sugar level is normal.
