Hi Nilu79 ,
Welcome to the group. Feel free to continue posting postings and comments, asking questions, taking a look at the Pinned Posts, taking the polls on the Polls Section, replying to other member's posts and comments, attend our group's monthly meetings once a month (weekend days/evenings), and of course, meet the rest of the group members.
As for the type 2 diabetes and weight issues, have you been told by the doctor to count your carbs for each meal and snack? How many carbs are you allowed to have at each meal and snack? Are you on any medications with/without insulin? Have you been told to do an exercise routine each day or every other day?
Please check out the Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation for the free leaflets on Exercise and Diabetes and Diet and Diabetes. Both can be downloaded, listened to, and/or read at anytime.
I hope this helps. Please go to: drwf.org.uk/understanding-d...
Hi Activity2004 ,
Thank you so much for your spontaneous reply.. Yes, I do look forward to reading some of the earlier posts and pinned posts.. Thank you for such a wonderful sight that is indeed very helpful especially when we are able to discuss our problems with people who do face similar issues for better understanding and support..
I was having symptoms of diabetes such as excessive thirst, frequent urinations, dry mouth, fatigue, lack of sleep for the past 5-6 months.. But somehow remained careless and did my diabetes test last month (12th April) when my fingers had gone numb suddenly one morning.. I found myself to be diabetic with 325 FBS (Fasting blood sugar) and and 408 PPBS (2 hrs post eating).. My sugar and acetone level was found to be 3+ in urine test which should have been negative.. The doctor asked me to get admitted unless the acetone level comes down to negative... I was discharged after5 days when acetone came to 1+.. My HBA1C was 11.7%. Also he said that I have lack of vitamin D and Calcium.. Currently I'm on insulin Ryzodeg 18 units in the morning and 12 units at night before food.. and tab glycomet 500 mg twice a day.. The doc told me to be on a strict diet with low oil, no sugar, no processed food, no non-veg.. Weekly once I'm allowed to eat chicken or fish in a gravy form.. Yes, he did prescribe me to exercise at least for 40 mins to an hour daily.. My sugar as of now is 131 FBS and 186 PPBS..
Thank you once again for being a patient listener.. Looking forward to be around
Hi Nilu79 ,
Thank you for the information. The numbers do need some work, but with the exercise routine that your doctor wants you to do, it should help over time. Along with the exercise, the fish and/or chicken once a week will help. Eat lots of protein-based foods at each meal and snack. I find that if you eat protein and some carbs, it lasts longer and the numbers stay somewhat more leveled for the day/evening/bed hours. Please let us know how it goes.
You are doing fine. Keep it up. 79 , year of your birth ?
Since you are relatively young, reduction weight by 5 t 6% will help you significantly.
Hello Nilu,
Im also 37 yrs old and I was overweight for my height, I've reduced close to 5kgs. However just reducing weight doesn't help at all. In order to control blood glucose levels, you need to exercise and have planned meals.
I've tried allopathic, ayurvedic and what not and still the levels are not getting in control. However I've heard about a program that can reverse diabetes.
I've booked a consultation and I'll keep you updated on how it goes. Take care.
Reduction of carbs is key to control your diabetes...
Carbs are responsible to shoot up your blood sugar...since as diabetic your body is not efficient as non diabetic to clear carbs..so most sensible thing you can follow is to reduce the carbs .
Get one good blood sugar meter...check check and check your blood sugar during the day and understand your body response to various type of food you consume..
Each and every person has got different body composition.so self experiment is best.
walk as much as you can...reduce carbs...and be sure you will be able to control your diabetes well.

Sad story.
Not a good advice by your doctor. Traditional teaching and preaching.
Try lchf diet. But beware you are on insulin. Take care if you start lchf diet not to get hypoglycemic.
1) low fat is an old unproven advice. Take good fats in good quantity so that 60% of your caloric requirement comes from them. Good fats are co, vco, evoo, ghee / clarified butter, mct, avocado oil, palm kernel oil and fish oil.
I'd recommend moderate keto range diet for you but you need to get admitted with a doctor who practises lchf for frequent bs checking and insulin dosages adjustments.
2) you can take meat - both thin or otherwise, red or white to fulfil protein requirement. 0.8 -1 G per day. Eggs with yolk too.
Exercise etc to be continued.
Gud luk.
You could be an example how lchf helps D.
