My blood glucose has decreased from 10.5 to 7.6 and continuing. Can my diabetes be controlled or will I need meds? This has occurred in 4 weeks.

Good and keep it up
Hello shepopo12,
Are you Type 1 or 2? For people with Type 2 we can control BSL with proper diet and regular exercise. However many T2 diabetics rely on glucose lowering medications. Therefore it's all up to you whether or not being able to control BSL in a healthy range naturally or taking drugs. By the way, what is your recent HbA1C mg % ? Number of glucose that you mentioned..."has decreased from 10.5 - 7.6 " was it fasting before meal or 2 hours after meal? If it's after meal BSL, it's good number (range from 6 - 10) but it's a bit high for fasting BSL (range 4.5 - 7.2 mmol/L). If you think that your glucose numbers have been decreasing and continuing, you should stop doubting in yourself. You just need to carry on what you have been doing in terms of exercise routine and eating the right foods that will keep your BSL in a healthy range. I personally believe that medication is the last option for Type 2 diabetes. Good luck
It was raken after fasting. My hba1c was 6.3. Doctor has put me on meds now. My hba1c was 6.7. I will have my next one in 30 days and hopefully it will be lower. I am not eating much carbs daily. Porridge and two slices of wholemeal bread or a roll is my max small pasta and 1 potato during the week. My weight has decreased within a month from 83 kg to 77 kg. Will the metformin help to lower it further within the next month for my next hba1c?
Aha..your HbA1C 6.3% exactly the same as mine recently tested in last October. I have been T2 for 6 years and never take any drug to control my BSL only by diet and regular exercise. My previous HbA1C numbers were lower than 6% and then I got 6.3% because I was not strict enough with CARBS taking. I am not now controlling my CARBS and eating more good fats. I believe Metformin should lower your BSL but you still have to continue eating the right foods and exercise regularly. Try to keep a healthy weight that matches with your height. You have proven to yourself that you can loose some weight recently in which I congratulate you and keep it up. Hopefully, one day soon you will stop taking the medication and prove to your doctor that you can manage your diabetes naturally. This is a much better way to live!
Thank you for your positive response. The doctor was talking about being on meds for 2 years but I am not really having much carbs and exercise most days. I do between 4 and 8000 steps per day. I don't want to be on metformin for more than necessary.
I am glad that you have a drug-free attitude in the back of your mind. Believe me T2 people can live naturally healthy without medication. It is scary to hear that your doctor mentioned that you would be two years on this drug. I don't think you need them that long and you can prove it. Have you read through some old posts on this forum where you can find many good advice for diabetes? I've learned a lot from them.

Pay more attention to the diet management. No to refine flour, bread, sugar, rice, potatoes. Take complex carbs. Follow lchf philosophy. You need to reduce your weight further. Try to bring fbs below 100. You can be drug free sooner than you think imho. You won't need metformin even.
Good luck.
