कूप मंडूक=Kup Manduk, the frog in the well (an old asian tale)

Once upon a time,there was a frog that lived in a deep old well. For him the well was his world.

This frog was very happy, every day fed on the worms that lived in the water of the well, and became a fat frog full of energy.

One day a sea turtle stopped by at the edge of the well. The frog was so excited!

"hello! where are you from?"

"I am from the sea"

"The sea! What is it? How big is that? Is it as big as my well?

And he took a leap from one side of the well to the other.

"My friend", said the turtle, " how do you compare the sea with your little well?"

Then the frog took another leap and asked "Is your sea so big?"

The turtle exclaimed "The sea is bigger, much bigger than your well!"

Then the frog shouted " You are a liar!! Nothing can be bigger than my well! Liar, liar!! "

and turned the turtle out.

Don't be like Kup Manduk, come out of your well, keep your mind open, and never believe that you have learned all you need to know.

समुद्र कुल का वंशज धरातल पर भ्रमण को निकला , चलते चलते उसको एक कुआँ मिला उसने झाँककर देखा तो उसमे जल दिखा और कुछ कोलाहल भी सुनाई दिया ! कौतूहलवश वह कुऐं में उतर गया कुऐं में उसकी मुलाकात एक उत्साही मेंढक से हुई , मेंढक ने समुद्र कुल वंशज से पूँछा तुम लगते तो हमारी ही जलचर समाज को हो , कहो कहाँ से आये हो ? समुद्र वीर ने जबाब दिया मैं समुद्र का हूँ ! कुऐं के मेंढक ने अचरज से पूँछा ये समुद्र कैसा होता है ? समुद्रवीर ने जबाब दिया समुद्र बहुत बड़ा होता है समुद्र पृथ्वी के तीन चौथाई भाग में फैला है ! उत्साही कुऐं के मेंढक ने कहा अच्छा और एक छलांग लागई फिर पूँछा क्या इतना बड़ा है तुम्हारा समुद्र ? समुद्रवीर ने प्यार से जबाब दिया नही भाई समुद्र बहुत बड़ा होता है समुद्र सम्पूर्ण पृथ्वी के तीन चौथाई क्षेत्र में व्याप्त है ! कुऐं के मेंढक ने फिर एक लम्बी छलांग मारी और कहा निश्चित रूप से तुम्हारा समुद्र इतना बड़ा होगा ! समुद्रवीर ने समझाया देखो भाई पृथ्वी बहुत बड़ी है पृथ्वी के तीन चौथाई भाग में समुद्र है ये तुम्हारी छलांग से नापने की विषय वस्तु नही है ! कुऐं के मेंढक ने कहा देखो जी अज्ञानी तुम्हारी पृथ्वी और पृथ्वी का समुद्र दुनिया से बड़ा नही हो सकता और मैं पूरी दुनियां दिन भर में कई बार नाप लेता हूँ समुद्रवीर ने पूँछा कहाँ है भाई आपकी दुनियाँ उत्साही मेंढक ने कुऐं की परिधि पर उचक उचक कर जबाब दिया ये रही दुनियां इससे आगे कुछ नही है ऊपर नीला आकाश और नीचे हमारी दुनियाँ जहाँ हम उछल कूंद करते हैं ! समुद्रवीर कूप मंडूक की जड़ता पर मुस्कराया और उसके मंगल की कामना कर कुऐं से बाहर निकल कर आगे बढ़ गया .....!!
