Hi
i have read over the internet diabetic should avoid driving as it may lead to hypo. Need your suggestion.
How do you manage your diet in travelling?
i am driving no problem occurred for last 15 years keep something to eat before going hypo before lunch, you may know the condition by symptoms like severing of
hands.
It's perfectly normal and safe to drive and lead a normal life. Eat at proper intervals and for emergency keep some glucose handy. At most chemists and department stores you can get 'Glucovita bolts'- for ₹10, buy a few of them and keep them in your car and 1-2 in your pocket. In case of an emergency/hypo consume 3-4 tablets or as needed to address the hypo.
Don't let diabetes be a limitation, please live your life. I'm a diabetic for 21 years. I do everything a normal person would and recently started city cycling, we do anything between 30-45 kms, I carry a small snack (energy bar) and for emergency glucose tabs.
I have been a diabetic since last 15 years. I follow LCHF with long wheat. My HbA1c was 9.5 It was fluctuating and now it is below 5.8. This is the first time I am hearing about a person with diabetes and driving. I am very happy to drive and I do not find any difficulty in driving. and I am sure I am a safe driver. There could be a problem only if you have very high sugar levels and you do not know about it.
I have been driving for last 20 years,Diabitic for 15 years have not faced any problem in driving
Oh thanks...
What is special with butter?.
I am diabetic for the past 15 years and taking insulin two times a day. I am working in Qatar and driving all these years without any trouble. In India also I go for long journey in cars by driving myself. I never feels anything wrong and never become HYPO. I used to walk everyday one hour and spends half an hour in gym.
I take precautions when ever I go for travel. I keep a glucometer, chocolates, insulin, water and first aid kit with me. I keep a card in my pocket and in my purse noting that, I am diabetic and the name of medicines I am using.
In my opinion, you can drive, if you are confident to drive and knows your physical condition and you have the wisdom to determine not to drive when you feels sick.
Wish you all a nice day..
Well , I am diabetic for last 15 years and do drive and at times long drive. I take following two precautions 1. Dont go driving on empty stomach . 2. Follow normal routine of diet .. no compromise on that. and third most important drive for pleasure do not take stress.
I am 67 and my diabetes age is 30 years. I am taking insulin twice a day. Even to day, I am driving four wheeler without any problem. I usually keep some Biscuits or Chocolates in the dash board to meet emergent situations of HYPO. I never faced any problem till now. I can drive about 300-400kms per day. I usually avoid night driving.
Thanks to all very useful information, please keep watch on your Thyroid health also it is a silent destroyer and cause early neuro problems.
