Leg cramps. The calf muscles goes into spastic contractions and become stone hard esp at night waking you from deep sleep. That is the time when such painful contractions occur.

Prick like pain on sole of the feet. Esp base of big toe.

I used to get these leg cramps or specifically calf muscle cramps.

Disappeared on taking magnesium supplement now.

Magnesium is a calcium antagonist . Calcium plays a vital role in muscle contraction. But taking magnesium can cause symptomatic relief . My such contractions are cured once bs control achieved. Such spastic contractions may be early sign of D.

What mg formulation did you take and what dosage ?

Reading a lot about mg. We are deficient of mg to a big extent .

Adding mg not only took away the cramps but also fasting improved.

I take mg glycinate. It's in chelated form . Doctors best brand .

The cramps are because muscles can't utilise glucose and that makes muscles fatigue.

If i had been listening to the doctors i'd be on insulin. Insulin must be avoided as far as possible because

1) you have to prick yourself daily twice or more often. I didn't want that pricks.

2) insulin is a potentially hazardous drug. It may cause lethal hypos. So you have to keep sugar or glucose biscuilts all the time with you.

To avoid these hypos you have to keep your bs a bit high. So it sets in a vicious cycle.

So i decided to go for diet management and yesterday my 1 hour ppbs was 120 after eating small millet loaf with lots of ghee and vegetables. So this is what one can achieve with diet control.

Suramo, again, indeed, for diabetes type patient insulin is most of the time not advisable. HOWEVER, as i already pointed out to you, patients with type 1 (or 1.5) do have to take insulin injection and check their blood sugar several times a day.

My post was regarding type 2. Type 1 & 1.5 have to take insulin but if they also plan diet the dosage of insulin can be reduced.

Where does your reply say it is about type 2?

I'm under impression that this forum is mainly for type 2. Insulin resistant D.

Insulin deficient D has different pathogenesis and treatment. Also the post was related to type 2. My post was in connection with ongoing debate.

suramo , a type 1 has to do shots and multiple tests a day or they will have lows with no idea why.

Type 2 is slightly different from type 1.

I already mentioned in my reply.

If you take the same food and the same insulin dosage the response will not be the same because there are multiple factors affecting the response. Like say your own body's condition, atmosphere, the variability of absorption of drugs etc are amongst many.

The people have lows because as i said if you are taking insulin you have to keep your sugar a bit high. Lows occur because the insulin dose may be a little more than you require. There is no possibility as you say of endogenous insulin secretion in type 1.

1) I only inject once daily (long acting insulin) and everything is under control

2) I never get hypo, long acting has no peak time, unlike rapid/fast acting insulin, it is even much saver than sulfonylurea tablets (amaryl glimepiride etc) in terms of hypo
