Medicines are prescribed by qualified doctors after several tests and evaluating your your health condition. So,it is not advisable to change medications without consulting your doctor.

Your qualified doctor will not insist on diet. If your blood glucose levels remain where they are now, one wonders what is the use of all these drugs. Please understand that diet is the first and most important weapon to fight DM, followed by physical activities. Then comes medicines. Taking medicines and eating whatever you want will lead to all problems. Your drugs will increase in quality and quantity and finally you end up in insulin shots. When the insulin dose limit is also reached, you are at the end of the road. Please start a strict diet regime minimizing high carb and high GI foods. Keep yourselves physically active. Your medicine dependence will decrease.

And you proved that diet is the key as you reduced A1C from 13+ to < 5.6 without DRUGS :)

Doctors aren't interested in talking diet. Their job is to sell drugs as that's where the real money is.

Right. At some stage, my A1C reached as low as 5.1. Now it hovers round 5.6. Never touched 6.

My experience is some what different.I always consulted clinics with adequate facilities for imparting diabetes diet education. One clinic used to serve an ideal suggested breakfast for diabetics. They used to conduct evaluation tests to know whether the diabetic is up to date in diabetic control knowledge.

Here it is not the question about significance of diet management. The gentleman is asking whether he can change the drugs prescribed by a doctor.

Lastly, diabetes is known to be a progressive disease. It means it becomes more severe as one advances in age,in spite of correct diet, exercise, disciplined life style etc. One has to change medications as the situation develops, under medical supervision,of course.

Diabetes is not a progressive disease if one maintains blood sugar and A1C of a non diabetic. Diabetes being labelled as progressive disorder is because of "loose and very relaxed" ADA limits, which are only set so that high carb low fat can be pushed. Labeling it progressive, absolves ADA and experts pushing High Carb Low Fat Diet of all responsibilities. easy escape route.

Not being an authority on the subject,I am just reproducing part of an article that I GOOGLED. I think you will not agree with it,but here it is for what it is:

Defining and Characterizing the Progression of Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 diabetes is a progressive disease in which the risks of myocardial infarction, stroke, microvascular events, and mortality are all strongly associated with hyperglycemia (1). The disease course is primarily characterized by a decline in β-cell function and worsening of insulin resistance. The process is manifested clinically by deteriorations in multiple parameters, including A1C, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), and postprandial glucose levels.

There's a Japanese study which proves what I said. The same is also posted on Jenny Ruhl's site. Problem with these statements is that they just make a statement and don't give a reason -- HIGH CARB LOW FAT.

Venkataramana, It is progressive only when you keep eating lot of carbs and take drugs to achieve a better blood report. This is the order of the day. This way, the gentleman's medicine requirements will go up. His qualified doctor will increase his medicine dose or put him on insulin shots any way. I am telling him what the doctors generally do not say. The diet advice one gets from the so called diabetic clinics needs to be cross checked with what we can learn from the burgeoning new literature now available on the subject. I do not believe that all doctors are demons or agents of pharma companies. But a vast majority of them are too busy to read anything and thus misled by the medical reps. Please do not forget that the pharma companies can influence goverenment policies and drug prescribing habits of doctors.

Precisely. It's progressive because of RELAXED ADA's limit. Those relaxed limits are set so that CARBS can be PUSHED. It isn't a progressive disprder for Dr Bernstein who maintains A1C < 5 even as a Type 1. He proves it that it is not progressive. He hates ADA limits.

Change your diet. Unless you do that medicine dose will keep increasing till you finally land up with insulin. LCHF diet works best -- dlife.in/ ... LESS DRUGS, BETTER NUMBERS.

I had similar readings and was not going down for a long time (8 years). Last one month in addition I am taking Ayur4vedic capsules (INSUDIN) 2 capsules 3 times daily

and now he blood sugar reading is 100 and 146. I think this reading is quite satisfactory. I now plan to reduce intake of Allopathic tablets, gradually after consulting doctor.

There is no side effects to taking Ayurvedic INSUDIN; I suggest you also try this method.

Can you tell me which brand and adress of ayurvedic medicne INSUDIN?Currently i am taking insulin powder fro aditi herbals chennai and my current average PP sugar got down from 220 to 170 and ranges between 15 to 180.Further after using 35 days same powder my motherinlaw(81 years) reduced PP sugar from 230 (average) to 145( ranges from 140 to 150.

The brand is "INSUDIN" ayurvedic capsules. It is sold by Natura Biocare 10 strips x 10 capsules (100) casting 500/- free cash on delivery sold on the internet.

I have not tried their other products for cholestrol control etc.

I have now completed 1 month's usage at 2 caps in the morning + 2 caps in the evening. I have not taken anything as afternoon dosage

as it is inconvenient for me.

I am a diabetic for more than 15 years and after many changes by allopathic doctors, finaqlly I am now taking 1 tab. volibo 0.2, 1 tab Dimicron XR60, 1 tab Janumet all three in the morning before breakfast and samething in the evening after dinner.

My BS readings were fasting 180 PP 254. After taking Insudin caps.

2 + 2 for 30 days, it has now come to fasting 136 pp194.

I have consulted my doctor. I will be reducing the dosage of allopathic medicines gradually. To start with evening Janumet is deleted. Todays post breakfast reading is 180.

It seems to be working favourably but takes 3 to 4 weeks to take effect. I have bought my second month's requirements and plan to increase the dosage of insudin by taking 2 + 2 + 2 while I have brought down the dosage of allopathic medicines.

Will keep you posted after 15 days. I am taking my reading every three days.

I was under allopathic medicine for almost one and half years.I felt that keeping the same diet plan my medicine went on increasing. After coming to this forum in 2013 last quarter i switch in to LCHF diet.It is very simple.Calculate carb from all sources to 100 grams. So fat has to be increased. This fat is good fat ,which comes from almond, flax seed, peanut, pumpkin seed, butter, ghee, VCO etc.You have to take low caeb veg also. For milk products you can consume full fat milk curd, cream butter milk.Try to take lest grain ,at best 30-40 grams only. For details go to Delife wavesight. Thanks

MY EXPERIENCE WITH ORAL MEDICINES .I AM A DIABETIC FOR 18 YEARS AND 70 YEARS NOW.I CONSULTED ONE DOCTOR FOR TEN YEARS AND HE CHANGED THE MEDICINE ONCE AND MY ORAL MEDICINE WERE CHANGED 4TH TIME. GENERALLY DOCTORS SAY SAME MEDICINE WILL NOT CONTROL YOUR BS LEVEL FOR LONG TIME AND SO THEY PRESCRIBE DIFFERENT MEDICINE.

It is advisable  to change the medicine after tests and advice of the doctor.Diet and exercise will always have an impact for sugar control.Generally it is not advisable  to take any medicine  without physician's advice.
