I goggled and found its useful for many ailments. Brings down high blood pressure, its anti-carcinogenic, anti-depression, improves memory, anti-diabetic, improves blood circulation, removes tooth ache etc. etc. but how do we take this. Many people I believe would have a periwinkle plant growing in their pots as they flower plentifully throughout the year and does not require too much of care and they come in different colors . Once I heard the white color flower is the medicinal variety. Can any one please clarify, I have a pink variety in my pot. Do we have to eat the flowers or the leaves ?

some say white, some say pink. I had white and got pink when someone said pink. they say 5 flowers/leaves early morning empty stomach. More if the readings are high

This is good news for me. My plant is full of flowers. I shall start with the flowers from 2morrow itself. Thank you, Guptaji.

There are lot of natural medicine / herbs which controls BP / T2DM but not effective for all the persons. I have used for 2-3 months but not so effective. May be effective slowly in long run. I am not getting sadabahar flower in winter may start after a month.

Took 3 flowers on an empty stomach. It has a different kind of bitterness unlike bitter gourd. I didn't like it. Started feeling groggy one hour after having breakfast, this has never happened to me before. That showed my sugar was drastically falling. Had to put a slice of orange in my mouth and chew it slowly. Periwinkle is not for me. I have come to conclusion, everything is not suited for everybody. It may turn out to be toxic and we have to be careful what we put into our mouths.

Vinca plant is known by modern medicine.Because it was used in Ayurveda and Chinese medicine for many ailments including diabetes. That is why a major pharmaceutical company(-Eli Lilly), in 1950, studied this plant for its medicinal properties. They got four compounds among them two important alkaloids, vincristine and vinblastine are still used for treatment of certain blood cancers. they are used only under careful supervision of specialists. They got serious side effects like anemia, nerve damage, other damages to the body including losing patients hair. But to save life doctors are forced to use this treatment.

I guess few leaves may not kill you immediately, but it is not beneficial for other ailments.

you don't believe (not know for sure?) this is beneficial to treat type 2 diabetes? i think even her? little experiment shows it can lower blood sugar quickly and drastically. she just did not study/learn first what to do with it. i also have read its the leaves that are beneficial for the diabetes but studies have been done there in india with whole plant.
