Type 1 is also called juvenile or early onset diabetes.Due to genetic factors.they are unable to produce any insulin and so,have to depend on insulin injections for life under close medical supervision. This happens at very early age

Type 2 This type occurs later stage of life like 30 years or more.Their insulin production may be insufficient or the body may be unable to utilize the available insulin because of insulin resistance developed by the body. They can manage the condition through diet control, exercises and medication, both oral and insulin injections.

There is another type called gestational diabetes which is seen in pregnant women. It may disappear after child birth.

Dear venkataramana,

I think Type-1 is a stage when body no longer produces required insuline to metabolise glucose present in the blood stream to produce energy.

Type-2 is a stage when insuline produced by body is not utilized and medicines are prescribed to correct such situation. Type-2 is a precursor to Type-1.

Gestational Diabetes is pre-type-2 stage that can be corrected by proper physical and food control regime.

Please correct me if I am wrong.
