NAFLD is still not a condition that has been well understood,to my little knowledge. One therapy that is being attempted is by managing the gut bacteria.High fat diet is one of the means to manipulate the gut bacteria to treat, for example epilepsy. What I suggest is to examine the links between NAFLD,gut bacteria, and your diet.My suggestion is based purely on my very limited knowledge.

Nafld is very well understood. It's caused by high fructose intake by diabetic people. Fructose is metabolized almost exclusively -95% - in the liver into glycogen and glucose upto 70% together but in diabetics glycogen storage is full and its conversion to glucose is also blocked by high glucose in the blood. So fructose gets converted to ldl inside the liver cells and since there is no route for this ldl fat to escape it gets trapped into liver cells and cause anoxic damage to the mitochondria of liver cells leading to cirrhosis and nash.

The only solution to get rid of nafld is lchf keto range diet. medicines if at all work have little effect. The condition should be monitored by ggt level assays which are diagnostic as well as prognostic.

Thankyou, not sure as it pertains to me because I don't feel I have any fructose in my diet. Not sure what anoxic damage to the mitochondria of liver cells. Also ggt levels assays, and what is Nash.

Anyway you have to control bs by intensive dietary management - lchf keto range diet. You have to find the possible source of fructose in your diet.Avoid fruits. Hfcs containing drinks.

I had grade 2 fatty liver with normal ggt,ast and alt.

Found out using ultrasound scan.

Reports please.

Scanned on 02/06/18

Liver size 173 ; Enlarged - diffusely increased echogenicity s/o fatty liver. No focal hepatic lesions. IHBR are not dilated. HV, PV & intra-hepatic IVC are normal.

Gamma GT 37 U/L (11-50)

AST 31

ALT 48

Did not check bilirubin and albumin.

Note that GGT is well within range, with a grade 2 fatty liver, when it is supposed to be very sensitive to liver function.

Yes.Normal.But take care. Lchf is the answer.

Which would you say a person weighing315 should tackle to loose a fatty liver & bring diabetes in range, your ketonic diet or the bariactric band surgery?

Bariatric surgery is serious interference with the nature.I firmly say no to it.The best way is ketogenic diet.Practising such diet for a few months would get one rid of fats. Then lifelong lchf diet will take care.Bariatric surgery - lifelong trouble. One can't eat enough because of reduced capacity of the stomach. So one needs to eat frequently. Also hypoglycemia is a problem. Even post surgery high carb diet advised to be avoided. So ultimately it's low carb.

Thankyou for that sound reply,my liver Dr said nothing but go have bariactric surgery, so I am going to listen to what they have to say, but very afraid of it for myself. Thankyou I will let you know what I decide, can you give me any more direction on where to look for a ketogenic diet.

It's everywhere on google and YoTube. Basically, the keto diet is almost absence of carbs.. You need to take proteins and fats.

Also, before going for bariatric surgery, your doctor should hold a meeting with the people who have undergone that surgery to share their experiences, but I'd prefer you to take addresses of or find by other means such people so that you get unbiased and unpressurized opinions. The best thing is don't go for bariatric. Find a keto practitioner in your area.
