Yes... But Pl ensure that you take the FOOD thereafter.

It is generally customary to have insulin 15 minutes before food ( half an hour is too long and risky).

However, if you forget some insulin can also be taken even half an hour of taking food after food.

Hi banshakti,

I CURED my diabetes in three years; you are taking insulin for four years. Along with insulin treatment follow LWMDR. It will give amazing improvement. Either Google search LWMDR or read below:

=============================================================

The text below is a "COPY&PASTE STUFF" from my previous replies to some others.

IF YOU HAVE ALREADY SEEN IT, KINDLY IGNORE THIS.

==============================================================

TAKING MEDICINES ALONE WILL NOT BRING DOWN BLOOD SUGAR ALWAYS. THAT IS WHY PATIENTS ARE FORCED TO MOVE FROM EXERCISE TO DIET CONTROL TO LOW DOSE TABLETS TO HIGHER DOSE TABLETS TO INSULIN INJECTION AND COMBINATIONS OF THESE. YOU HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR FOOD HABITS & LIFE STYLE ALSO TEMPORARILY TILL CURE.

Please read MY REPLIES part 1, 2, 3 & 4 to question AT diabetesindia.healthunlocke... OR read my experience at appropedia.org/Diabetes_mel...

Like a licensed driver helping a learner, I can guide you to cure Diabetes because I am experienced by curing my diabetes (Type-2) in 2009.

If you have still more doubts on DIABETES & ITS CURE, PLEASE COME BACK HERE.

@mitanup: Yes, quite correct. Few mins before, after won't make much difference. BUT After is recommended in cases as Nagaraajan was talking abt....it is risky if one doesn't take food after as it happens with some busy people. one phone call of 30mins or so, no food that can make a difference. Generally, if u take food soon after ur insulin...no problem at all. If one has a meal outside at restaurant or at a party, one can still take it within 30mins and it won't make much difference, some difference but not much. Hypoglycemia can be riskier than hyperglycemia in terms of emergency situations.

What you said is exactly correct.

Before starting important medication like insulin,it is essential that a diabetic gets thoroughly briefed

by his doctor regarding dosage,timings and any other relevant information like hypoglycemia etc.It is dangerous,if doubts remain even after starting the medication.

I am of the opinion that Insulin should NOT be taken before food. Most of my patients either businessman, or politicians, or bureaucrats. These people do take insulin at right time, but owing to their pressure of work they forget to take enough food. The insulins available are premixed, and contain short acting which do have a maximum action within 20 to 30 mts, which is maintained by long acting insulin. But when you take food, your hyperglycemia results only after 1.5 hours, wherein ther is immediate reduction of blood glucose by the short acting insulins. resulting in hypoglycemia. Hence most of the patients who suffer from chronic hypoglycemia, receives hypoglycemic brain insults, resulting in chronic dementia. Hence I strongly advise to take Insulin after or during food , and NEVER BEFORE FOOD. THIS IS IN BRIEF, AND IT IS SUPPORTED BY SCIENTIFIC FACTS FROM ME.

I found your clarification on when to take insulin, interesting. I am a diabetic for 31 years, and depend of

on insulin (32 units of 50/50 mixtard before breakfast and 28 units of same before dinner, for abut 15 years.

I am 74 years, and most parameters are near or normal.

Would you suggest that I change to insulin after breakfast and dinner?

Regards,

When is the best time to take insulin? before dinner or before going to bed?

sandybrown ,

If you take insulin that's fast acting at meals, depending on the brand/type the doctor recommends, you can take it before or after eating. The slow acting insulin can be done before a bedtime snack, but again, ask the doctor since some insulins work differently for other people.
