When we go for blood sugar testing normally fasting and post prondial levels are checked.But these results are like a snap shot indicating the sugar levels at that time and day.Sugar levels vary continuously and scientists have come out with a new test called HbA1c which gives the average blood sugar level over the past three months.This result is more indicative of the level of control over diabetes.A figure below 7 is considered safe for a diabetic but very good control means you should be close to 6. 7 to 8 is considered a danger zone mostly needing medication.Above 8 means one is seriously diabetic.Now Hba1c is a standard test in diabetes treatment

HbA1c is a lab test that shows the average level of blood sugar (glucose) over the previous 3 months. It shows how well you are controlling your diabetes. HbA1c tests are not accurate enough to be used for initial diagnosis of diabetes.
