You are not in border line but a diabetic by definition. But I personally feel that you need to straight away start medication. You can definitely bring down the numbers by other means.Only when you fail in these efforts, can you think of medication. Please consider the following suggestions:

Management of sugar levels is a tough job but is not impossible if you realize that the task is essentially in your own hands. The doctor or dietician may guide you but ultimately it is you who has to put into practice all that has been learnt. Diet control makes maximum difference in a diabetic condition. Avoid sugar, sweets, and any food that is loaded with sugars like mango, banana etc. Also avoid vegetables like potato, beet, sweet potato etc that grow underground. Eat more of sprouts, vegetables and greens that give you fiber, minerals and vitamins. Eat less of rice, wheat and other cereals rich in carbohydrates and demand more insulin for converting to energy. The idea should be to reduce consumption by least 200 to 300 calories per day to gain significant results.

After diet, exercise plays a very important role. Walking or jogging for 40 to 60 minutes a day will improve your glucose metabolism significantly and spend about 200 calories.

Last but not the least one should lead a stress free life style. Stress is a recognized trigger for diabetes. Practice relaxation techniques like pranayama, yogasanas etc.

You should go for quarterly check ups and annual comprehensive review with an experienced diabetologist and follow the prescriptions scrupulously

Ultimately the most important person in your diabetes management is Y O U.

You are right. All root vegetables carry valuable minerals and vitamins which are invaluable. But on account of the fact that they are richly loaded with carbohydrates we have to give them a go by.Instead it is safer to obtain the missing nutrients through a variety of vegetables ,greens and sprouts.

Yes, it is time to start medication, only after consulting a diabetologist. Controlled diet and regular exercise, together with medication can keep the sugar level normal.

You have got diabetes mellitus. Those who have got fasting blood sugar level exceeding 126 mg/dL iare considered as diabetic patients. However your post-prandial blood sugar level is normal.

Control your type 2 diabetes by diet, exercise and medications.

Consult an Endocrinologist.

Interesting to know that 190 pp is considered normal.

The American Diabetes Association recommends a postprandial glucose level under 180 mg/dl and a preprandial plasma glucose between 90-130 mg/dL. Some other sources say that it can go upto 200 mg/dL. Care should be taken to the effect that you should not have sugar in the urine for all time.

What would be the ideal sugar level for a long time type 2 diabetic on regular medication? Can 120 (Fasting) and 180 (PP) be considered normal or is it alarming? Wd appreiate your response please.

Diabetes is diagnosed with the following blood tests:--

Fasting blood glucose level -- diabetes is diagnosed if it is higher than 126 mg/dL two times

Random (nonfasting) blood glucose level -- you may have diabetes if it is higher than 200 mg/dL, and you have symptoms

such as increased thirst, urination, and fatigue (this must be confirmed with a fasting test)

Oral glucose tolerance test -- diabetes is diagnosed if the glucose level is higher than 200 mg/dL after 2 hours

You should aim to achieve fasting blood sugar level <100 mg/dL. But fasting blood sugar levels up to 125 mg/dL is normal.

You should aim to achieve post-prandial blood sugar (PPBS) level (2 hours after taking food) < 140 mg/dL. But post-prandial blood sugar level upto 180mg/dL (according to Americal Diabetes Association) is normal. Please note that according to oral glucose tolerance test, PPBS level can go upto 200 mg/dL.

What is more important is that sugar should not be released along with urine at all time. (Ordinarily sugar will be released along with urine when your blood sugar level reaches 180 mg/dL.)

You should aim to achieve fasting blood sugar level < 100mg/dL and post-prandial blood sugar level < 140 mg/dL.

By general definitions of parameters you are diabetic. Your best bet is not this forum for prescription but a good doctor/endocrinologist in your vicinity. He is the one who would assess your condition and prescribe medicines. He might also decide to direct you to a dietician for a balanced diet. So kindly do that.
