Type 2 diabetes: Hi iam new to... - Diabetes & Hypert...
Type 2 diabetes
Do you test your own blood with a monitor and strips? Have you kept a list of your blood glucose levels on rising, mid-morning, lunch, early afternoon and night time? Without such knowledge, it is difficult for others to be of assistance to you. I have been through the same process as yourself and before I could get the most salient course of medication, I was taken to hospital suffering a hypo.

Hi john yes i test my blood using a monitor and have good readings but i get light headed alot is that normal
It is normal but usually when dizziness or being light headed is reported usually indicates that a hypo is either forthcoming soon or that your insulin levels are high. In numbers what is your reading when you get up in the morning. What are your readings before the first meal of the day, what are your readings mid-morning, what are your readings, before and after lunch, before your dinner and finally before you go up to bed? Have you any issues with your weight? I apologise for all these requests for readings but it is essential that you learn to maintain a relatively normal kind of lifestyle and that includes above all how to manage your diabetes both through medication and with diet.
John

Hi Stacy I have recently started diabetes and it’s hard to navigate it all .Could you tell me in average what your bloods are two hours after lunch and supper . Thank you xx
Hi matrix my average bloods are about 6.5 at lunchtime and 7.6 at suppertime hope this is helpful x x
Thank you so much , that’s much better than mine at 10.5 or just a bit lower . That’s very helpful thank you Stacy xx🤗😇
Glad to be of assistance matrix x x
Stacy you have encouraged me to do better ,I’m starting again. today watching carefully what I’m eating and doing my bloods all the time .xx
Do you count carbs for each meal and snack?
I don't know how to , I'm new and honestly diabetic nurse didn't give me any leaflets or anything just cut down on sweet things carbs etc . I don't really know what I'm doing .x
I will be happy to help you with the carb counting and send a message to you later tomorrow morning. Would you like to talk about it then? Are you in the UK, India or the USA?
I'm in the uk I could do some help and thank you so much this weekend is very busy as we have a christening and have to make food all day tomorrow and the christening is on Sunday. So if I don't get back to you right away you will understand why.X😇

Any suggestions on healthy snacking
Stacy I don’t know the answer but would like to know too . Xx
HEALTHY SNACKS:
Nuts: Walnuts, Brazil Nuts, Almonds, Pecans. Please limit the quantity, they have lot of calories.
Dairies: Full fat cheese, Full fat Greek Yoghurt.
If you feel like eating snacks very frequently, you are not on the right kind of diet. Diabetics need not remain hungry. You should eat your meals to your full satisfaction in order to avoid hunger pangs between meals. This can be achieved by low carb healthy fat diet (LCHF) which will also give minimum blood glucose rise after meals. Discuss with your GP. You can get lot more information on Low Carb Lifestyle on the following website:

I could do that easily as I often miss lunch .aoh it’s such a lot to know .xx🤗😇
It's really important to learn how to read nutritional labels. A lot of the so called healthy snacks really aren't. The best thing to do is talk with a dietician. If there is a diabetic support group in your area they can be really helpful. Just know that doctors aren't real great people to talk about diet to.
