borderline diabetes: Hi all I am new on... - Diabetes & Hypert...
borderline diabetes
Hi,borderline diabetes? Do you mean pre diabetic ? OK, whatever they told you ,I think you should be careful, watchful and taking precautions,so as you do not cross borderline to become a full fleged diabetic. The word worry should be last on your agenda.
Hi the doctor didnt really tell me anything about what I should and shouldnt do, and didnt seem really concerned xx
I concur with the previous recommendations that have been given to you. I think your Dr. Was economic with the facts. You are in the danger zone of becoming a diabetic. It can be managed what you need to do is change your lifestyle. Avoid direct sugar and added sugar. Avoid processed foods with excessive starch/carbs. But all said the best control for diabetes or pre- diabetes is constant exercise. At least 3 times a week running/jogging for a few km. to start or three times a week in the Jim for one hour. This done consistently will stop the onset of diabetes or if already diabetic will ensure you live almost a normal life. I am diabetic for the past 12 years and I religiously run at least 3 times a week a minimum of 30 to 40 km. a week. This has done wonders to me. Off course I avoid direct sugar and I watch my diet. You won't believe it but for the past 11.5 years I have not used any medicine. But having said that, please consult your Dr. For more professional advise.
Hi Thankyou for your information I am unable to do any running or gym work as I have got trapped nerves in my back and severe nerve damage in several parts of my body, so as you can see I am at abit of a loose end, I will however watch my diet very carefully. Thankyo once again Julia
I have diabetes and suffer with back problems due to my weight (serverely obese). Do not feel you have no options for exercise. Its your body misleading you into doing nothing. I can not walk more than 10 mins without pain and getting out of breath but I can ride a bike with ease. I joined a Cycle for Health scheme near me. I can not recommend it any higher. I am out of the house in fresh air, if you can not ride they teach you how. All the riding is off roads on decent paths so no traffic to hinder you. You ride at your own pace. They provide helmets and bikes for a nominal fee (I pay £1 that goes to maintence of the bike, a cuppa and a biscuit at the end of the ride). I joined in April, struggled my first ride to compete the full ride but I took my time doing it. I am now doing an 8 mile, 2x 3.5 miles a week. Exercising 3 times a week for an hour. More importantly I feel great, I have more social contact. Yes I still get wobbly at the end of the ride but thats getting better too.
Thankyou where can I get that diet from ?
Thankyou and all the best to you Julia
Basically watch your diet. Usually start diet only - then diet and tablet and if it gets too bad end up on insulin. By keeping eating habits in check gives you more chance of further problems but also need to exercise. Not just a matter of watching sugar intake need to watch Carbs as well
Thankyou x
