Hello everybody. I have diagnosed with diabetes having HBa1c 11.7. I don't have family history and its first time I have been diagnosed with it. I went to doc. Doctor says I need to start insulins therapy for 1 month with sitagliptin and Metformin combination. Iam bit confused that is it good to start insulins inj? Dietary control can help to control or not?

Hello Puskal ,

Your HbA1c is very high therefore your first priority should be to bring it down to less than 7% to avoid any complications. You should follow Doctor's advice.

Yes, it is good to explore simultaneously the routes of dietary and lifestyle changes to control your blood sugar so that you can get rid of medications/insulin or at least reduce their dosage significantly..

Low carb diet e.g.Ketogenic/LCHF has been found to be very effective to control blood sugar. I am myself following low carb and have maintained blood sugar in non-diabetic range without any medication. If you need any assistance in this kind of diet, please provide further details about yourself-

Age, Height, Weight, FBS, 2 hr PPBS, Vegetarian/Non-vegetarian, any other medical issues.

I suggest you should consider ketogenic diet. Being a non-vegetarian it would not be difficult to follow. Please read my recent post on ketogenic diet:

Sounds like you have type 2 and the oral medicine isn’t working well. Do what your doctor says and hang in there you’ll be fine.
