diabetic neuropathy
Are you on metformin - this can lower your ability to absorb B12 resulting in a B12 deficiency - strong overlap of symptoms with diabetes - including diabetic neuropathy. Word of warning- B12 deficiency can be a factor even when your results come back in normal range using B12 serum test - the usual one and establishing if it is just diabetes or B12 or a mixture of both can be really difficult unless your GP is prepared to trial B!2 shots and those improve the situation.
Some people find that taking high level B12 orally can be effective - 1000+mcg a day - not dangerous as B12 isn't toxic. You also need to have good folate levels.
If you think it could be a factor then suggest that you join the PAS forum
as diagnosis etc can be really difficult as it's an area GPs tend not to be familiar with
hi gambit62,thnks for ur response with valuable information.im user of metmorfin 1gm,so b12 deficiency.my doctor advice methycobal along with nova together at night n im continuing, how ever,im now facing a chronic stomac upsetting n loose motion tendency,so far metmorfin is the cause, pls advice me how to get rid of this.thnx.
It is high time metformin got banned .
Although there is a bit of me that agrees with you reality is that it is an effective treatment for many but it is a lack of awareness of the consequences in B12 deficiency and general ignorance of the breadth of B12 deficiency symptoms, the overlap with other conditions and the fact that individual responses to B12 are such that normal range is a very poor guide to whether a deficiency is actually present.
My grandfather developed MODY diabetes in his late 30s - so I would probably never have known him if metformin hadn't been available to treat him, though I'm pretty sure that metformin was a factor in his death in his 70s - dementia related ... and I can see the same in my mother - though now know that different drugs are available and suit their particular form of diabetes better.
Thank you for the correction . But in a couple of cases where B12 was taken , the neuropathy symptoms almost vanished . That's why we can not generalise and give on line suggestions .Thank you once again , for enlightening me on this issue.
Neuropathy could be diabetic or could be B12 deficiency - unfortunately the assumption tends to be diabetes so possibility of B12 deficiency is overlooked ... medics really need to be open to looking at all the possibilities not just making assumptions.
Yes . One can have peripheral neuropathy irrespective of diabetes . But whatever may be the causative factor , B12 gives much needed relief .In Homeopathy PLUMBUM 3X gives instant relief . But too much should not be taken .
Change the dietary habits , take B12 supplements , do yoga , Take gymnema either Ayurvedic or homeopathic preparation .
Gymnema gave good results in many cases . Now ,sorry , I can't produce case histories and proofs .
