It is true that after 20 yrs and above many complication arises even with good control like peripheral neuropathy, importance , drynessof skin , eye problem , kidney problems etc, and is being treated acordingly, so see nearby dr , can do examination and important investigation and some neuroton will prescribed for you.
limit is not pertained to carbs alone , it should get extended even to fats , proteins as well . In fact the whole intake of food should get reduced . It should not be taken beyond the needs of the body.
There have been some studies using high doses of B12 taken orally to treat diabetic neuropathy with some quite good results - think the recommendation in India is to use a mixture of methyl and adenosyl - and it would be amounts of 1mg=1000mcg (or ug) a day. Methyl is recommended as some people have problems converting other forms (hydroxo and cyano) ... and the addition of adenosyl is recommended because some people have problems converting methyl to adenosyl. B12 is used along with folate to maintain the protective shield around nerve cells and so can help in repairing that so the nerve cells work better.
There are a number of other conditions that can cause neuropathy - such as thyroid and b12 deficiency - causes of both include autoimmune responses - and there is a high incidence of several auto-immune conditions occuring together so depending on what you know about the cause of your diabetes - it is quite possible that there could be multiple things going on but if the focus is on diabetes as the cause of neuropathy the other conditions could be overlooked.
B12 is only found in animal products so dietary B12 deficiency is quite common amongst vegan populations and those with very little meat/fish or dairy in their diets - just mention that in case it is could be a factor. Its also quite common in non-vegan populations and gets more prevalent as you get older - because of other potential causes of absorption problems
Instead of going for processed foods and food supplements it is better to rely on natural foods . Try to take pumpkin seeds , sesame seeds ,( which are excellent sources of copper , manganese , phosphorus , magnesium ,iron , selenium and zinc ) mango fruit , papaya etc. EVEN Gingkoilobaa helps in this respect .Go for chapathis or dosas made with buck wheat .Buck wheat I don't have first hand knowledge. I don't know whether it is the same as referred by shooterGeorge as long wheat . But if you try all these , with out medication , you would get maximum relief .If needed you caIn homeopathy plumbum 3x also gives instant relief . If u feel like you can take alphalipoic acid and B12 combination for instant relief .
A table spoon of sesame seeds per day helps to reduce bad cholesterol , prevent high BP , and better liver functioning.Chances of rheumatoid arthritis ,heart attacks , strokes also get reduced .
