Been given Sertraline 50mg as anti-depressant.

Been really so low past few weeks so finally decided to visit the doctor and was prescribed with Sertaline (50mg) once a day. I want to know how effective these are as I have been unable to focus on my university work. Do they cause weigt gain/loss? I'm 20 by the way. Just hope they work.

Sertraline is not a new drug & has been around for over 20yrs, it is one of the more popular SSRI drugs that Drs seem to be giving to patients!

I had it a few years ago and I had a bad reaction so unfortunately I had to stop taking it! However, there are a number of different & new types of medication available & being used for those suffering with depression!

A lot of Drs are recommending talking therapies alongside or instead of medication!

Everyone is different & their reactions are different, so I guess it's just a wait & see time!!

I was on Sertaline for a while. Didn't find it that effective. To be honest I found 40+ minutes of regular outdoor exercise as effective and actually better. It reduces anxiety, stress, makes you feel good and alleviates depression. Have a good weekend. Andy
