Blood Sugar Level

I was diagnosed and started taking C/L this past June (25/100 3x daily) and since then have noticed an increase in my fasting glucose level. I usually stay a bit under 100 but now I am usually over that sometimes as high as around 110. Is this a common side effect of taking the med or PD in general. I'm seeking feedback from the group and a successful strategies you are willing to share to bring the level back to more normal. Thanks as always.

"Yes, Sinemet may affect blood sugar levels:

Levodopa and dopamine

Some studies have shown that levodopa, a component of Sinemet, and its metabolite dopamine can cause hyperglycemia in humans. In one study, a single dose of 1.0 grams of levodopa increased fasting plasma glucose levels in patients with Parkinson's disease within 30 minutes. In isolated muscle, levodopa-carbidopa has also been shown to prevent insulin-stimulated glycogen accumulation and glucose transport.

Urine sugar tests

Sinemet may cause false test results with some urine sugar tests, so diabetics should check with their doctor or pharmacist before using them."
