Do antibiotics disable the effectiveness of madopar? Since i started antibiotics a couple of days ago, I've been shakier, stiffer in neck and more anxious.

I think it’s more likely that whatever infection you’re being treated for is the culprit.

This won't help, but it might be of interest.

My apologies, you prob misunderstood my comment up there. My original ques wasn't abt Doxycycline.

I was just responding to the other person who wrote one word "Doxycylin" to explain further what they meant

I agree with Juliegrace . Recently, I was infected with covid and I was just miserable for two weeks. My MDS said that it was more than likely to be the result of covid.

I had the opposite reaction with C/L . After I had antibiotics to treat Sepsis, I went a couple of months with no symptoms.

The positive impact needs to be investigated and the benefits ingredients isolated and extracted

Antibiotics will change the composition of the gut microbiota for better or worse. This could affect Parkinson's as result of changes in production of short chain fatty acids and the microbiota's metabolism of levodopa

Hmm... means there's not much I can do about it, I'll just have to endure the worsening of my symptoms for the remaining 4 days left

Thank you park_bear, always very insightful

Lot of reasons

1.

Most people who take antibiotics tend to get some degree of softening of bowel contents. This is because they tend to have sodium or other salt loads and bulking material to cause osmotic drag of fluid into the bowel cavity.

This means absorption gets affected

2. Then you have secondary causes; many affect renal and hepatic clearance of man drugs (this can make your kidney or liver clear whatever other drugs you take , some of which manage the Parkinsons

3. Eventually gut bacteria changes occur temporarily (some cause more prominent and longer term effects)

4.Different antibotics have other effects on gut motility independent of point 1.

Examples are :

Erythromycin , clarithromycin have direct action on cholinergic receptors (Acetylcholine neurotransmitter) causing increased gut motility speeding up the gut)

This neurotransmitter "counteracts" dopamine in realtime in some functions . Some of the characteristic features of Parkinsons are a direct result of this minute to minute imbalance of movement (rigidity, slowness and possibly coordination.

and finally take into account that all infections make you feel rotten in many ways.

Hmm, very complex interaction it seems, Thank you so much

Yes allneurotransmitter interactions are cmplex.

The knowledge we have barely scratches the surface (sadly)
